2000 yz426 clutch chatter

I have a 2000 426 that has always had clutch chattering. The clutch showed no signs of wear but it busted anyways. After completly rebuilding the motor and installing a new and complete stock clutch (outer basket, inner basket, pressure plate, fiber and metal plates) the bike worked great. Now the chattering is returning and again no signs of wear are evident. I could replace baskets with hinson parts but dont know if this is a fix. Is this a common problem or am I just that lucky to get the pick of the litter. PS I use amsoil and change it frequently. Mark

You need to do the 01 clutch update. I'll see if I can find the post I made on this before the big upgrade.

Thanks for the 01 clutch mod info. I will look into this. Obviously the 00 and 01 friction plates are different. Not sure what the Plate,Seat is but I will find out. Thanks again. Mark

the 2000 Yamaha clutch basket was prone to problems - I saw many of them explode at the track - Hinson has the better replacement

Only 1 friction plate is different, the innermost one. Go to www.ronnies.com or the Yamaha site and compare the parts fiche for the 00 versus the 01 or 02 and you'll see where the differences are.

Just did this to mine before my last race ('01 clutch mod) and worked great, no more chatter. Used to chatter and screech on launches.

I remember those discussions. Mine started chattering and I ended up replacing my stock clutch basket with a $140 PE Billet basket. You can still get them that cheap. With 3 seasons on it, still no chatter and no signs of wear. It's good, so is the '01 mod. Do both and be happy. ?
