Is the auto decompression cam the same for the YZF450 motorcycle and the YFZ450 quad?
Thank you.

Nope. All three cams YZF, YFZ, and WRF have the same lobe profile, but different cam timing. The YFZ is somewhere in between the YZ's and WR's.

in the 2004 yamaha parts list the YZF and YFZ have the same part number 5TA-12180-00-00, the WR is different indeed. (one tooth)

Many part numbers are similar, but if you notice they often are different by a letter. The 2004 YFZ cam number off of the yamaha-motor.com parts fiche is:

5TG-12180-00-00 CAMSHAFT ASSY 2

The Quad has many parts with the exact same number except for "TG" instead of the YZF's "TA".

The exhaust cam is the same on all three though.

Thanks to everyone for all the help/info. I just ordered the stock 04 YZ exhaust cam for my 02 YZ426. Now I just have to be brave enough to install it! Anyone in the Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley area done this to their 426? I'll take any advise that will help me do the job right.

Thanks again!
Ed.

That makes it a different part. All *-12180-*-*'s are exhaust cams. The prefix identifies the model it was originally produced for, and the two sets of two-digit suffixes are for alternate sizes, or other revisions.

5TG-12180-00-00 is an exhaust cam for an '04 YFZ

5TA-12180-00-00 is an exhaust cam for an '03-'05 YZ450

5UL-12180-00-00 is an exhaust cam for an '04 YZ250F

will the 05 yfz cam fit in a 426 without any performance loss?

No. It will fit, but the timing would step it back closer to the performance of a WR. You want the 5TA cam from the YZ450, which will give you a gain in mid range and low end, with no loss on top.
