I'm about 5'8'' and weigh 130 lbs, and this seems to be a little too light for the WR400 in some situations. Thats why I'm considering to switch to a 250, which should be a more efficient bike according to my weight. Off course there is a difference between fun and efficient. Isn't there a lack of real power with the 250 ? I ride 50% fast trails and 50% tight, 'technical' trails. I would like your input about this, should be resonable to be more efficient or do i have to choose for fun and brute power ????
Thanks anyway

Ynahg, like I said, Just Do It! You won't regret it. The 250 is a fast bike. Obviously you haven't ridden one yet, or you wouldn't be asking this question.

ynahg,

i'm 5'8" and 150lbs. it's plenty enough bike for me. to me it's in between a 125 and a 250 2-stroke. 250 bottom and 125 top.

I have a WR250F with all the mods and a DrD pipe. I use it for enduros and mtn riding. I have a YZ426 for MX and HS. The WR250F is fast enough that I could race it at my level in the senior class in MX or HS. For our wide open MX course, I like the YZ better, not just for power but also the stiffer suspension. But for tight trails and enduros, the 250F is WAY better for me. BTW, I am 6', 185 pounds. I dont win many long drag races against 426s, but I am not down on power in the woods. I bet you will be faster in the end on the 250F for what you ride. I went to Rampart Range (trail riding) with a few guys on KX, RMX and YZ 250s. After they tried my bike, they wanted a 250F. The suspension is incredible!

I thought the same thing when I was buying my WR250F. I was thinking about the 426. I love the bike now. I am your exact weight and height. At first (Being a 2Smoker) I was dissapointed, but now, after the YZTimming and Gray wire mod, I love the bike. I will never go back to a 2Smoke again.

My buddy here on TT went from a 99 yz400 to a 01 yz250f and all i here are good things. I think he is about your size. He races hare scrambles on the east coast which is similar to the riding you do. You will notice that flat out on the straights you will lose to the big bore bikes but once your in the woods you are at the advantage. I would suggest getting ahold of one for a test ride - your doubts will disapear.

Hi,
Just sold the '00 WR400 and got my new '01 WR250F.
Was also sceptical about the power but after trying one I was convinced. Peak power if like a YZ 125, weight is like a YZ 250 2-smoke and the spread of power ridiculously easy to use. I love it!

At first I was riding it with too much respect because it was so forgiving to ride, but hey, there is no catch! Confidence inspiring, light, fast. This bike is amazing and it will go into some history book/ hall of fame.

Buy it!

I had a 99WR400 it was dead stable. The problem was it was dead stable. It is really a point and shoot type of bike the motor made great power just to much for the Michigan woods I ride. My 01WR250 is not as stable but man it rails the corners and the motor went from disappointing to perfect with the grey wire mod. I'm not rippin on the 400/426's I would still own one if it was not the 250.

Sure miss the 400 in sandy scamble zones.

I rode a YZ250F last weekend...my normal bike is a DRZ400. I didn't think the YZF was down on power at all. It's very light, handles great and makes really good power...like a very strong 125, only everywhere in the powerband.

I'm your size and to me the only issue would be the occasional hard-start problem. Otherwise, the bike is about perfect. A hall-of-famer for sure!
