Bar position & Cornering

I am a tall rider and I normally move my bars up quite a bit in the clamps for the added room. Does that affect cornering? I'm thinking of bringing them back a bit (got a new bike and the ergo's are really different) to see if that would help me "stick" a bit better in the corners.

I came from a 2002 426 and the seat/bar distance is much shorter then my current bike 2005 450.

Thanks in advance.
