Does anyone have some good advice on how to lower the bike a little bit. I am not the tallest person, and can’t even touch tip toe on the bike. I have done all the modifications, including the gray wire (I haven’t tested it yet), YZ Timing. I also have the scotts steering damper with triple clamp and pro tapers. This setup doesn’t allow me any room to move the suspension lower on the triple clamps. Any advice would be great. I can manage with the height, but in starting situations, it’s hard to do when you can’t touch.

A company called Trakcontrol Dynamics seem to have it pretty sorted out, check out this URL: http://www.trakcontrol.com/Index.html
they quoted me
To just lower the bike is $440.
This includes;
fork and shock labor $125
Custom fork springs $100
Shock revalve $165 using stock
$225 using the "works piston"
Lowering components $ 50
You don't have to get the forks revalved but that's up to you.
Fork revalve(optional) $165 using stock
$225 using "works piston"
and the good news is they can put it back to normal when you want to sell it !!
Cheers

I have had my bike shortened one inch plus the suspension revalved, it's made all the difference in the world. Easily the best spent money on my bike. Sunruh has had it done also and he'll tell ya the same thing.

I have been considering having my suspension lowered also, I am just worried about the loss of travel. I am a beginner, so is this something I should worry about or not? I know lowering the height will give me more confidence and control. Any and all opinions are appreciated :-)

it is the BEST mod i've ever done to a bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
period, bar none.
losing a little travel is not even noticable.
mine is 2 inches shorter than stock. perfectly balanced on a stock bike, not even my tippy toes could touch with boots on.

Thanks, But does any one have any more info on how, or where to get it done ? Do I have to send some stuff out, or is there anywhere local in CT ?
Oh ya, I also tested out the Gray wire modification. See my post in that category. Holy cow, what a ride now. YZ Timed, Gray wired, now all I have to do is get a pipe.

There are several places that can do it, just talk to the suspension shop of your choice. I believe Sunruh had his done by TrakControl Dynamics, I had mine done by MX-Tech, another guy on the 400 site had his done by Scotts and I'm sure there are several others that will do the service. You'll need to take your shock and forks off the bike and send them in.........TW

TW is correct in that any "decent" shop can do it. just depends on how much you trust them. unless you really wanna throw money away, you will need to take the forks and shock off the bike. in your area there is GP-Racing and Factory Connection. of those 2, i'd pick Rob Mann's GP racing over FC anyday. i've had a FC setup and found it only "ok" and that was stock height too. both TrakControl and MX-Tech (i've ridden both) will offer you a more plush ride (over stock or FC) when done.

You may also want to check out C-Cycle Suspension they are located just up the road from me in Colchester, CT. They are pretty popular with CT/NE riders. www.ccycle.com

I'm in Torrington, otherwise known as Borringtown.
I ride the T-Dam a lot, and Otis. I just called CCycle and they can do it, but recomend not to. they say that part of the suspension offers the plushness of the ride. Hmm what to do.... I want to call a place that is confident that it is better. That's the place I probably will send it.

I can't convince you online to trust me but Sunruh is right. I personally know of a customer of MX-Tech who had a YZ400 lowered. He loves it. So does a 6' 225lb man that has ridden it.
The shop that isn't recommending it doesn't have enough experience to understand the limitations to the mod. That is they don't know what is too low or not low enough or what.
I'm not recommending any suspension tuner over another but any reputable tuner can set you up. There are plenty out there from MX-Tech to GP Racing to Track Control to Pro-Action to a host of others.

Go looking elswhere. All I can tell you is my suspension is worlds better on the old 99. Lowering has helped immensley in the tight stuff and on climbing, especially when you have to dab now and them. If I were an expert and never had my feet come off the pegs, especially when making a climb, sure just a revalve would do, but I need all the help I can get. Like Sunruh said, "BEST" mod I've ever done to a bike. Call and talk to the other shops listed who have done the mod and get their view of lowering. Post on the 400 side also and get some more opinions, I can pretty much tell you they'll be a copy of what you've read here.......TW
