Got my 250F back in March and it spit me on my head and busted myself up in the first hour of riding.Rode yesterday for the 1st time since. Im coming off a CR125 and Im having a hard time adapting. How long did it take you all to feel comfortable on your new bikes?
Get used to it

I came off a CR125 aswell, It took me about two months to really feel comfortable. At first I kept diving off jumps, washing out of corners etc. Now everything is sweet. I dropped the forks down about 10mm and switched to a michelin m12 on the front and just got used to sitting further forward in the turns, now its awesome..

The best advice I can give you on jumping the YZF is to run a higher gear at lower rpm. In other words do not take off in a very high rpm condition. As you have discovered, any slight reduction in throttle results in tremendous compression braking. Launch in the bottom half of the rpm range and there is almost no compression braking and it will fly like a bird.

I agree with hoosierf about jumping in a higher gear. Coming off a YZ125, it took me about 4 rides to get the hang of the YZ250F. I will never go back to a 125.

i've ridden cr125s and cr250s through out my racing career. adapting to the 250f took about a month. from the 1st time i threw my leg over it, i could ride faster & longer.
the yamaha suspension is *much* better than honda on whoops, etc. i think that i was a better rider on the honda because i rode it with more effort. the yamaha is so much easier that it allows me to "daydream" and i lose my focus.
the jumping in a little different but i still do jumping tricks... pulling in the clutch before the face of jumps. the bike jumps lower and forward compared to my hondas.
