I was just at Devols factory and saw this;

I've seen the Protec and the BBR. This is nicer...

I like them all, and 2 months ago I'd have bought 1, now I'm not so sure. The thing is starting's got easier and I've got used to the stock one, so do I really need to spend that?

If you look closely at the Devol piece and the BBR piece, they are one and the same. I have the BBR lever on my bike, as the dealership replaced the stocker with one under warranty. The BBR lever is a good investment simply because it is shorter than stock, which makes for easier starting, especially after the motor breaks in. It only takes a half-hearted kick to fire it now.

Those of us who live in Washington know that Devol and BBR are about 5 miles apart. Their brake pedal looks awfully close to the BBR pedal as well.

I went ahead any got one of the kickstarters from Pro-tec, it is a piece of
art and it makes starting a ton easier,
It kicks over just like a 125, it may be spendy $$$ but it's worth it. Barely kick
it and it's lit up.

WOW,
this kickstarter really rates !!!
Best add-on I've bought for my WR so far. Starting is SOOO easy now, I just sit on the seat and boot it, starts first time every time, hot or cold !!!

Pretty cool stuff, but IMO that money would be better spent towards a pipe, airbox, or a real performance increasing mod. That's just my opinion unless some people have money burning holes in their pockets. I have no prob starting my YZ250f and plan to buy a DR.D or Yosh pipe any day now. My ego is saying, "Yea, but those sano trick looking parts are cool though" (kickstarters, brake pedals, engine covers, etc.......) If only I had an endless bank account for the dream machine !

MotoStyle, as sad as this may sound this was a performance increasing mod. My bike was seriously bad to start, so what better performance ehancement than to have it start when you want it to?

WRF,
I'm getting the distinct feeling that the only reason these things are hard to start is because they have WR attached to them? My YZ250F couldn't be any easier to start. It's 10 times easier than my 426 and that isn't that bad. I'm glad that the kickstarter was a perf. upgrade. Now, that brake lever may just be a 150.00 enhancement that may look cool, but it's not going to improve my lap times.
I'm all for the cool stuff, but I have seen the guys that are all 'Show' and no go with all of the trickness on their bikes. If they spent half that money on a Gary Bailey MX school, it would have been so much more worth it.

Wait and see how much the stocker costs when it finally grinds itself in half on the footpeg. $159 is nearly a wash, and because it's close enough in price, I got my dealer to replace the stocker with a BBR lever for free!
I also agree with MotoStyle, my WR250 is only slightly more difficult to start than my 2-stroke Tecate-4 quads (and they're EASY). Just can't figure out why Yamaha, in their wisdom, put the hot start button on the wrong side of the bike. I can fire mine after dumping it, near boiling over, on it's side for a minute, and still light it in 2-4 kicks, IN GEAR, but it's hard to operate the hot start button when your left hand is busy! Guess it's time to invest in the handlebar mounted remote hot start kit.

The Pro-tec kick starter is a must for us shorter riders. It makes it so much easier to start the thing when your stuck in an ackward position. Even my kid who normally races YZ125 and could never relight the YZF after a fall, now gets it lite in two to three kicks. And he's 2 inches shorter than I am. The thing is definitely a piece of CNC art work. I would consider it a must have part for anyone under 5'10". I watched two different riders stall or crash their 250f's at the local MX races this weekend, both while leading or battling for the lead, both ended up in dead last because they couldn't re-light their bikes. Can't say for sure the the shorter kick starter would have saved their race but I am sure it would have improved their odds.

i agree with motostyle, since i yztimed the wr ,it fires up much easier, all mods performed, plus c/f glideplate, lowerforkguards, frameguards,cr frontbrakeline, ims seat/tank,yoshpipe,yzrearfender,#plate,renthalfatbars,obergsportstripleclamps,flatlandracingradguards/odospacer,enduroengineringhandguards w/protaperbarmounts........more to come including fonesco c/f airbox,ty davis hotstart/magneticdrainplug/carbthrottlewheel,scottsstainlessoilfilter,wersteeringstablizer,twinairfilter,tyaxleblocks,hydralicclutch,p-38,.........and then hinson clutch when needs, more carbonfiber and ti everything as i can afford......also a trick kickstarter and quiet pipe if anybody makes one that doesn't kill power.....yes i'm stoned,it helps at these prices but when randy hawkins laps me at the gncc's he won't have a tricker wr,well probably a little....everymod closer to a yz made my stockjetted wr easier to start,1204'elevation and no jetting changes yet.;D
