I've always wandered what purpose that little piece of plastic that hangs off the front of the number plate and wraps around the bar pad... What does it do? I've brainstormed and searched and i cannot find a reason! Someone tell me before i cut it off!

I think it is there to support the number plate and keep that side from flapping around.

It's the cell phone holder. Just slide your cell phone in and it holds it real snug.

Kind of like the neat cup holders that come standard on all PCs. just push the button on the CD player, and a cup holder pops out.

I know exactly what thats for (at least on Hondas)

On a Honda, at least the number plates they used on the 2000-2003 CR and CRF's, that piece of plastic keeps the front brake hose from getting caught behind the front number plate and thus keeps it from kinking.

I found this out the hard way! I always used to cut it off on my Yamahas and it made no difference, but it sure did on my Honda!

Wow, I can't believe I was the only one to know that!

Oh, there are others out here that knew that, you were just the first to reply!
Scary to think some people bypass that safety feature by cutting them off.
Dan.

Boys, back in the day of drum brakes the brake cable would get caught on the top left corner of the triple clamps when the suspension compressed. When the forks extended back in their normal position it would throw the front brake on hard. If you were riding an european bike (CZ, Husky, Maico, etc.) it didn't matter because they had little in the way of brakes. Them rice burners (bikes made in Japan) was another matter, they would lock the front wheel. You had to dust yourself off, compress the forks and unhook the brake cable.

Way to true

It took me a long time to figure you what was happening on my '74 Kawasaki, every now and again that would happen and I couldnt figure out what was happening, never hit the ground, the suspension was so bad it would compress before it had time to throw me off. When I fingered it out It was like  why didnt I think of that sooner...
