What do you do for your sport?
I spend many days working trails for both cycles and quads
I spent yesterday repairing whoops on trail that never sees quads in action. There was a whole train of vehicles. Me on the lead tractor, with a 38in rototiller. In second, a tiny tractor with a center slant mounted grading blade. 3rd through 7th, quads hauling tire drags to groom the surface.
My own quad is set up to haul 3 chainsaws, to remove downed trees. It also has a tow chock, to pull broken motorcycles out of the woods while running sweep at races.
Oh, I have a bike too.
Trail damage isnt specific to quads or bikes, they both damage trails.
The problem is that next to no one actually works on their trails. The huge majority complain and do nothing, whether they ride bikes or quads. Very few quietly wait for repairs, or take part in the repairs.
Trail damage is inevitable. Trail abuse is rampant. Nature also takes its toll on trails. Do something other than complain.
Find the local club that works your trails, and put a day or 2 {or more} in each year. In the end, the club is more interested in your help than your dues. Dont have a quad or tractor? Believe me, if you show up, they will find something for you to do, anything from replacing lost trail arrows to clearing brush in advance of equipment crews to lighting the charcoal for those noontime "dirt-dogs"!!! A day of trail maintenance can be just about as fun as a day riding.
If you dont like the conditions of your trails, do something about it. If you dont help out, whine quietly please, I'd rather hear my diesel. Actually, I'd rather hear the rumble of my XR400 rolling through the woods, then you can whine all you want to.....
If you're not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
