I noticed there is alot of quad bashing going on here. I dont think this is right, i ride quads and bike. When on the sport quad i were full mx gear just like on my bike, and on the utility i always wear jean, long sleeve shirt, normal boots, helmet, and goggles. I see quad mostly get bashed for the users lack of gear. Well here is some news for you, a few bad choices by a few dumb people doesnt mean all quad riders are bad! If i went out on my bike with no helmet, sneakers, shorts, and a t-shirt does that give me the right to bash you becuase you ride a bike! Also i see sometimes quads get bashed becuase they "require no skill to ride"....yea right.....are you trying to say doug gust has no skill? I dont think you guys would like it very much if i saw a few people make some bad coices on bikes and i bashed away on bike in front of a bunch of bike riders. Just asking if you could sorta settle down on it alittle and that maybe the moderators could consider what im saying at take some action on it if it continues.

I understand that, there are plenty of quad riders that actually wear full gear, it just seems like theirs more of them that hardly wear any gear. Just about everyone in my neighbor hood ride quads, and I'v seen very few wear a helmet. I dont think anybody in the neighbor hood wants a dirtbike cause there has been three deaths on a bike this year within 10 miles from my house. (Yeah it sounds odd that it involves a dirtbike) Those three were kids that have been riding on the road, and they never look out for traffic, there not even suppose to be on the road! They weren't even wearing a helmet either.

well it is true their not that hard to ride...
The reason bashing is going on is because the majority has no regard of safety since they feel as if they are driving a car and drink Beer riding them.... Drinking and driving? come on  .... How many times you see a dirt biker drinking beer going through a muddy section?

OK, I'm new to the forum and I read through a bunch of the postings on here about quads. First off I do ride a quad...serious racer. I race the Kaw V-Force 700cc...Anyone want to say it doesn't take skill just come on out to the local MX track with me. I get a lot of respect from all the racers because I'm hanging it out there with the 400 and 450cc machines...7 races, 6 first place trophies... Tossing a 550lbs plus machine around is not easy work let alone taking double and triples with it. Anyway...back to the topic of gear. I wear full gear and yes there are a few people who don't get it and ride around with no helmet and in shorts. On any given day during the prime bike months in Iowa, I see more bikes on the streets with no helmets and in shorts and t-shirts then I ever would on a busy weekend at the ATV park. The point we all should get here is set the example, wear the gear, put on the long pants. My 4 year old son has a nice scar from a pipe burn because I let him sit on my V-Force in shorts...lesson learned and never again. He now barks at me if I even go to move the quad without a helmet on in the garage. Again, not trying to start arguments in here but safety gear works for everyone and all should wear it...

i see drunk dirtbikers everytime i go riding. they are even more obnoxious than the atv riders around here.

Uh, I think you need to reread some of the posts like the one ARE QUADS REALLY SAFER THAN BIKES or something like that.

It's not that we all feel riding a quad takes no skill, it's that unskilled people are able to go really fast and take stupid chances way before they're ready. Thus causing great damage to themselves and others. In addition it SEEMS many of us have seen a large percentage and know a few who don't wear helmets or gear because they THINK they are safer with 4 wheels.

If you're riding responsibly, we love ya!

I do a lot of riding...dirt and street...2 wheels and 4 wheels...and I see a lot more motorcycle riders without helmets then quad riders. I agree with the perception people have about riding quads, heck they're even automatic transmissions...but when it comes to people just not using common sense, all you have to do is look down road at Sturges every year to see some of the dumbest riders...bike or quad...no helmets, no gear...hell even no clothes at times...I think over all the majority of off-road riders do atleast put on a helmet.

I agree. I see many Quad riders making dangerous mistakes and not paying attention to what they are doing.

I notice the same thing on the lake with waverunners. Many inexperienced people riding way beyond their capabilities.

We bash Quads because they are there  Seriously tho it does take skill to ride a quad at racing level. The problem is it doesn't take any skill to get on one and take off, unlike a dirtbike. Plus they are hard on trails, again mostly because of the 'unskilled' riders who like to get out there and throw up mud. The same person on a dirtbike couldn't stay upright long enough to do much damage. But on a quad they can trash a trail in no time, making the trail harder to ride for all of us and giving more ammunition to those who'd like to close the trails.

Hold on about the trail damage friend... Trail damage is based on 2 things...lbs per square inch and HP at the wheel... Bike have way more lbs per square inch touching the ground then quads and they put equal to more power on the ground... Why do you think most MX tracks have the quads run last? It's to groom the track back... I agree that the 4X4 always seem to find the mud holes and make them a lot larger...but for normal trails...bikes dig a nice deep narrow trench a lot faster then it would take for a quad to dig that deep.

stop turning single track into double track and i'll stop bashing quads. it's that simple. untill then they are for fat, untalented jibronies.

i find most quad antics amusing: donut spinning, riding for hours in a gravel pit while ignoring 100+ miles of trail, no helmets, doubling up, etc.

We don't bash quads, we bash quad riders. It's the riders that behave irresponsibly, not the quads. And comparing 99.9% of quad riders to Doug Gust, Barry Hawk, Jeremiah Jones, etc is like comparing Madonna to Mother Theresa. It can't be done. I've owned a quad or two, I just don't brag about it

there's nothing wrong with quad riders. just like there's nothing wrong with mentally retarded people, right? they're normal people just like us, so please don't stare or point fingers at them or treat them any differently. if corky ever wanted to ride, there's little doubt that he would have chosen a quad. actually, corky, like many quad riders, is unable to make safe and compitent decisions, so a care-taker would have to choose the quad FOR HIM. but he would do well on four wheels because it takes no serious motor skills. all it takes is a basic understanding of controls, usually explained by a drunken, shirtless buddy like this: "push this to go fast, push this to stop and turn this to do donuts!", at which point, corky.. or rainman.. or any mentally handicap individual.. would take off, quick as a a shot, kickin up dust and spinning burnouts and wheelies, spitting rocks all over his family and friends, and hootin and hollerin like a crazed chimpanzee on a tricycle. what could possibly be better than 660cc's of monster power and torque.. and no learning curve! it's a redneck's wet dream.

and quads are great for keeping the idiot population down. i say keep building them bigger and faster and more dangerous and then remove all the restrictions about wearing protective gear, riding double, etc. and let the quad population thin itself out naturally.

Ah, c'mon man....We've got to have some group to make fun of. It's human nature. You really expect everyone to get along perfectly? That's asking a little much these days don't ya think?

As long as the quads stay off the single track and don't roost me at the picinic tables I'll be happy.

i always figured women were too intelligent to ride quads.. since they're really only useful for drag racing, doing burnouts, extended donuts, wheelies, and other parkinglot show-off acrobatics.. i don't see what the attraction would be for women because all of these things have a decidedly testosteronious aroma to them. but then, i suppose we always come back to the lowest common dinominator, however, which is the poor sap with no skills or ballance.. traits shared equally by men and women alike.. for whom quads were intended in the first place so..

either way, male or female, if you ride a quad it's because you can't hack it on a real bike and you suck.

my opinion, of course. you may have yours.

I would say that women (for the most part) have a self preservation instinct that keeps them from doing the dumb stuff that give quad riders a bad rep. Just wanted to see if you were going to make yourself a target again.

Some of the quad riders who post here still don't understand why they get bashed. I think a demonstration is in order.

I am going to show up at my local riding area in a Jeep CJ with the biggest tires I can find. I'll drive into the pits and park next to Mr. Quad Rider. Then I'll get into my riding gear (unbuckle one suspender on my overalls and put my cap on backwards). Next, break open a bottle of Jack Daniels and have a good long swig. Start the Jeep and do donuts for about 15 minutes. Oh, was that your lunch I covered with dust Mr. Quad Rider? Was that a new paint job on your truck I pelted with gravel? Oh well, I'm not really responsible, I'm drunk remember?

Time for some trail action. I'll head right out on some nice quad trails that were made for a machine about half the size of the jeep. Doesn't matter though, cause I can just knock down anything and everything on both sides and widen it up real good. What's this coming toward me? It's Mr. Quad Rider again. Well you better get out of the way buddy 'cause this trail is exactly wide enough for one jeep and no more! The jeep is bigger and heavier so I don't worry about a head-on crash, that's your problem! That's it, dive off into the brush until I pass by. Oh, did you get pushed over a ledge? Oh well, those are the breaks. Besides, I'm drunk remember? Time for an new bottle of Jack.

Of course the jeep won't go very fast on these tight trails. Wonder what I can do..... Aha! A mud puddle. It's not too deep but I can fix that. Yep, nothing demonstrates real driver skill like spinning my wheels in mud. Better do it some more. And have another pull off that bottle of Jack..... There, now it's a nice 3 foot deep mudpit and it's so big that there's no way to go around it. Let's see those little quads go through that! That'll teach them to be so high and mighty.....

At the end of the day I'll head back out of the park. Maybe a ranger or landowner will see the damage I did to the trail and the trash I left. Maybe they'll close the park down. Won't matter to me, I don't ride there much anyway. What about Mr. Quad Rider, who had been riding here for years? I just won't think about him at all.
