I am keen to do some trips to the outback or Cape York (Australia) I am looking for ideas on setting my bike 99 WR400 up for touring eg gearing, tyres and any other mods.

I fit a 16 tooth front sproket on mine,
and left the rear 49 tooth alone.
But 95+mph is way too fast took it of after one ride.
I think a seat would be my first change(monkey butt after 30 miles on the seat)

Just ordered a set of sticky street tires
maybe I will try it again after I mount the new tires.

The seat issue was addressed awhile ago, check the old posts. Consensus goes w/ GUTS racing pleasure line w/ tall soft foam. Makes a world of a difference on long trail/enduro rides. Just send them your seat and they will recover it and send it back for about $100-110 bucks. Looks identical to stock. Make your butt happy again!

Thanks for the reply guys. Does the 16 tooth front sprocket fit on the 99 WR400 without any mods? I just fitted a 15 tooth and it just fitted between the chain guide and the cover. Also with the seat problem do I need foam added and does it need to be softer or harder foam.

Thanks Andrew

I had to take off the case guard.
that was another reason I removed the 16 tooth.

your call...

About the seat foam I think I am going to send my seat in.
No more sore butt for 100 bucks well worth it :) :D
