Screwed the Pooch

My 2000 XL with 3200 mile was running bad, cuting out at High RPM, took it out for a ride to try to diagnose further, was pushing it hard on the road in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd,..Bang then nothing,. It appears (after pushing it home three miles tonight) I may have siezed the motor. Any idea how bad the Honda man is going to stick me $$$ ?

Dude that doesnt sound good ? have you been changing or checking the oil ? what above the valves have you been keeping them in spec. And when you say siezed can you kick it over or is the motor just locked up ? If I were your thoughly check everything out then post you find here before bringing to honda it just might be something stupid ?

Also you mentioned the word BANG did the motor make that noise or is that your expresion.

BANG= not good?

CUT OUT= maybe o.k. with some TLC?

Thanks for the response, cut out when running at max rpm in 3rd, looks like the motor is siezed. When I hit the starter button all I get is "death" click.

Oil was rather low, I should know better.

Death click...... not good, did you try and put it in gear maybe 4th and give her a push ? and was that bang in the engine ?

When the engine "seized" did your back wheel lock up and slide?

locked up engine test..

Push it as fast as you can in neutral, jump on it and put in third drop clutch.. you'll know if the engine turns, if not the back wheel will slide.

If it actually made a "bang", then maybe the rod broke and is jammed against the cases. Try rolling it forward AND back while in a tall gear. If you cant get it freed up, you'll probably have to pull the top end to know for sure.

A guy that was susposed to go riding with us a couple of weekends ago couldnt go because he failed to check the oil and it tryed to seize up on him. he changed the oil and filter and gave her a try at first it felt ok but some power loss then it tryed to seize up agian. He tore it down and it is going to cost him about $800 at the local honda shop. He has a 2002 650L. His dad took a back flip last weekend and it also tryed the same thing I dont know how his is doing now. I hope that this is not a problem with the 02s because that is what I also have.

I doubt its a problem specific to the '02s so much as its a problem with not checking oil.

Great if you have 4X4 skis hahahahha and like to go over rocks. The highs during the day have been around 70-80 and the lows at night 35-40. Great weather for ridding though. It is great to have a big red lead sled here.
