Street legal in PA?

Has anyone converted a bike for street use in PA? I'm looking into doing this in the near future. Any insight would greatly be appreciated.

I'm street legal. I had the shop where I bought the bike from purchase and install a baja designs kit WITH the understanding that when I loaded it up on my truck to take home it would be street legal. The shop did ALL the paper-work also. All I did was sign my name. One thing they had to do was send a new picture into PENNDOT with the kit installed to show it is carrying the right equipment for re-registration as a street legal vehicle. Call PENNDOT, there are LOTS of YZ's(yep, 2 strokes), YZF's, and WR's running the roads around my house.

Thanks, I'll have to call them when I'm ready. I know there are a lot converted dirt bikes on the road, but I've talked to a couple of guys and they said it was a major pain.

Your best bet IMHO in PA is to find a shop that has done the conversion AND issued an inspection sticker. They will already know the "tricks" to get the correct paper work. In the end, it looks like a shops call as to whether or not you get the all important PA inspection sticker. My whole process was a piece of cake. Like I've said, let a shop deal with it, that's what they're for.

I would find a mechanic willing to inspect for a reconstructive title before starting.

Go to a notery to get the correct paperwork for a reconstructed title. The procedure for this is changing this month. New paperwork and pictures before you start.

I have a street legal WR400 I converted in PA.

Do you need a cert of origin before you can get the R Title at a notary? OR jsut pictures and paper?

By the way, has anyone noticed that in PA a trailer inspection sticker is the same as a motorcycle one?????? ? .

FWIW, I was told that due to some shady auto R titleing, the rules changed on july 1. I heard it from the mechanic that did my paperwork. Anyway, he said that for any "R" title to be issued a licensed inspection mech. has to sign it off as correct, send in pics (as before) and, half of the inspection sticker. Then a state official(??) must personaly inspect the vehicle before the 2nd half of the sticker is applied.

I see it as only a little more hassle to go through if you intended to do it right in the first place. But and a big BUT, it'll probably scare some of the willing mecs. away. After all if they accidently let something slip through they risk their license and fines for only a small fee.

Ill have to look into that. What is to stop you from getting a sticker next year once you have half a sticker and a good title? I rarely have more than half a sticker left on the fork of my street bike at the end of the year!

I had an OHV title before I started. I'm just glad I did mine in April. A notary should be able to tell you the new procedure or find out.

as I understood it, the official applies the 2nd half, then your legal, and just do the normal annual inspections after that.
