I am considering putting on a 13 tooth countershaft sprocket to make the bike work better on the tight trails, it currently has the 14/48 stock sprockets. Will I have adequate adjustment on the chain or will this combo force me to remove chain links? I also don't want the rear wheel back too far effecting the handling.

It fits without any issues and you won't have to ad or remove any links. There's also plenty of adjustment room left.

I recommend going with Sidewinder sprockets. They will last the life of your bike. I have 5k miles on my drive train and it has no visible wear at all. ?

I even went with with 13/50! A Ton of torque for my wood riding But the front is much easier to change obviously...I may switch teh rear back to 48 just so I can change back and forth with the front! (It may be to tight to go 14/50???)

I did a local woods ride(Troy Meadows)withe stock gearing, and then went up again after droping the C/S down to 13 teeth. What a difference! you can almost walk next to the bike in 1st gear, and because of the elevation at Troy Meadows(8000-9000 ft)you get some of that lost "snap" back.

I just came back from a desert ride with the 13/48 combo, and for me a large rider(320 lbs) it worked real good, only time I missed the top end was on smooth fire roads. Really didn't lose much at top for me because with the extra weight, the bike won't pull full rpm in 5th anyway. When the chain wears out, I think I'm going to run a 14/50 combo.

I installed a 13 on my scoot, made one helluva lotta noise, ( yes, I adjusted the chain accordingly ) And All's it did was make noise..Live with your current gearing, the bike'll chug in any gear. Don't sacrifice top-end speed just cause you wanna loft the front. If you really think youre suffering at low speeds, get a 2 stroke. ?

There's not any desert around Memphis! ? Makes it more fun to ride around here. It will still do around 80 mph.

Is it bad to drop the front sprocket down to a 13 with regards to chain wear on the slider?? Or anywhere else for that matter.

It might wear the slider a little faster but I haven't noticed anything on mine yet.

You will notice the wear on the lower front of the chain slider. You almost have to lay on your back, on the ground, to see it starting to wear into your swingarm. It took mine about a year, that's with riding every weekend in heavy whoops.

I have a 13/49. Sidewinder is good. Going down one on the front and up one on the rear keeps the rear wheel spaced in the same location. It is good to hear that some were able to go 13/50 with a stock chain. Although I am running a Tera Flex and have a tight fit at swing arm up front, not sure I could go 13/50. I ride a lot of tight stuff and the BRP has more topend than I use.

In theory, your chain won't fit if you go up 3 teeth in the back. ?

i run 13/48 for trail riding ? i was out in ocotillo last weekend wished i put the 14t back on for the sand washes ? i kept lookin for another gear ?

That's what I have in the rear right now. I'm running 14/51. It fits fine. That's a fact, Jack!

I am still stock, 14/48, but it works well for me in tight stuff. 2nd gear works fine for me down to walking speed with a little clutch action. I pretty much stay in 2nd and 3rd gears for trails.

You don't know what your missing. Forget the clutch action, just go up a few on the rear and she's right there all the time.
