Chaparral has the best price right now. $42.97 for a 120/100-18 Desert IT + $9 shipping. I couldn't find anywhere that could beat that price. If someone's got another source, hook me up. BTW, I'm running a Dunlop D756 on the front, but I just spooned it on yesterday and haven't had a chance to try it out...SC

OK. After reading a bunch of tire threads I'm sold on Maxxis.

Who has the best price on them?

Do you guys run HD tubes?

Any sugestions for type and size for a 02 Wr426?

Rocky mountain has great prices. If you ride the desert in socal, get the IT desert. It is the exact same tread design just stiffer sidewall and a harder compound rubber. I can run the Desert and get about 10 good rides where the regular IT starts looking pretty bad at around 5-6 rides. They hook up just as well.

Velo, what are you running for a front tire? I put a full set of Maxxis IT's on the last time and I'm not particularly thrilled with it on the front of my 300. It seems to skate a little too much when pushed hard.

I want a soft, super sticky front tire and I don't really care about wear.

John try the Maxxis SI front it is the best front tire I have ever used! It will chunk up in the rocks but I got over a 1000 miles on it in all kinds of conditions including nasty sharp arkansas rocks. It sticks on hardpack, sand mud, rocks etc! Wow what an awesome tire! ?

I concur with allothers in this thread. MAxxis ITs have held up bettter than any other tire I have ran on my bikes int he past 15 years 2 smoke or 4. May not be the best hook up when comparing withthe premier labels right out of the box new, but the Maxxis lasts and hooks up longest.

I now run Maxxis Desert IT. They are great for both traction and wear in So Cal desert. I used to run Dunlop D756 front and rear. Front was ok, rear was not. Maxxis works great both ends, even when worn, and they outlast D756 2:1.

I saw where Cheng Shin owns the Maxxis plant in Germany. Someone said this is the old Metzeler Tire Plant????

All I know is I love the tires.

I used to be a total Dunlop guy. Never liked anything else I tried until I went with a Maxxis IT this spring. Best damned tire I have ever used. I have tried a bunch of different brands. I think they are the greatest tire so far. They hook up great and the wear has been amazing! They also have an incredible race contingency program. Maxxis is where it is in my book!

Another ? for the Maxxis IT rear tire. They hook up well wear like nuclear waste and are less expensive then the "popular" brands.

But on the front of I do sport a Dunlop 756. They don't last as long but it does work great.

Dunlop 756 front and Maxxis IT out back works for me.

I wish cheeng cheap made them with the cheeng cheap stamp on the sidewall so I could get them even cheaper! Big names bring bigger prices. But don't always mean more performance.

Indy, is it a soft tire? I don't mind changing them out frequently if they stick. The IT front seems to skate too much for my tastes when I'm really on it through a fast corner. I need something that stays a little more planted.

Vmax,

I have the same problems as you with the IT front. I noticed a rider in my group that switched to the SI and he said he loved it, said it sticks everywhere. The SI is a soft-intermediate range. It has a nice wider knobby spread compaired to the IT but not to wide and few like a true soft tire. I will be running one on my next front change.

That's exactly the info I wanted. I ate it pretty bad the last time I was out running in muddy, wet root filled trails here locally 2 weeks ago. That stiff IT front just doesn't like that stuff and a softer tire would have helped a lot.
