YZ Tank and seat on a WR

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if a tank from a YZ (2-smoke) is the same as the YZF, is the same as the WR tank and seat?

I want to replace the tank on my WR to make it lighter, and understand I have to replace the seat at the same time. My question is: I found a seat & tank from a 01 YZ 2 stroke, and need to know if it will fit my 01 WR426.

The guy also has an alum sub-frame if that would fit I could shave 5 lbs off of my tank.

Thanks!

I did this mod a while ago. But the seat and tank combo came from a YZF. I modified my set up again with a larger Acerbis tank. On the MX track I keep it less than half full, otherwise the extra weight of the extra fuel makes it extra heavy ?.

I found that for regular riding the stock YZF tank didn't give enough range.

I am almost positive it will not fit.

My buddy has an 01 yz 250 2smoke and a yz 426 and it dosn't look like they could be interchanged but he never tried.

The 426 is identical to my yz seat and tank.

I have a seat and tank from a 98 yzf on my 99 wr and it was the best mod I did. Not that its lighter but just easier to move around.

good luck.

This may be a bit of the "Topic" here but, this question is for you guys that have done the YZ tank-seat swap on your WR's.

Do you still run the WR stator/flywheel combo in your bike?

If so... Why?

I'm looking for a WR stator/flywheel set to put into my YZ.

Oh ya. One more thing.

I've got a perfect YZ rear fender that is collecting dust. Well... I say perfect. It has light scratches in the plastic from where my boot slid across it when I got on the bike.

If anyone is interested shoot me a p.m. We'll work something out. ?

whats the seat/tank got to do with the stator?

I swapped my WR engine for a YZ, keeping the WR stator and flywheel, and the power it makes is like an XR on steroids. There's no hard sudden hit, just incredible power all over the rpm range, and I have yet to stall it. By far, though, THE BEST mod is the seat and tank. I don't know why Yamaha ever put the stock tank and seat on the WR's....it cripples the turning capability severely.

Like I said right at the start of my first post...

I'm looking to put the WR stator in my YZ. I was thinking that some of these guys who have made mods to their WR's in order to make them run more like the YZ's might have replaced the WR stator/flywheel with the YZ set. If so... then I would be interested in their WR stuff.

O.K.? ??

I swapped 98 WR/YZ shrouds/radiators/seat/tank, etc, between the two bikes without any problem. Then, I bought an 02 YZ250F tank and seat, and then put the WR shrouds on them without a hitch. No sweat....gotta love interchangeability....

HMMM!! thats all pretty interesting... when i got my YZ400F, the guy had sent a WR seat and tank, as extra. i did not relize they were WR until later. i have always ran the WR saet and tank, but i wanted to try out the YZ tank. but havn't. you guys say that it gives you more room to move around and turning??? i don't ride on tracks really pretty much open desert. that why i picked the WR tank and seat. ?

Question for b-bike. If you swap the WR engine for the YZ and put the WR stator in the YZ engine, couldn't you just adjust the WR engine to YZ time and get the same results? Minus Tranny ratio differences?

Correct. You would have the same thing. Now, the next question I'm asked is... Why didn't I just buy the WR insted of the YZ?

Answer: (As I've indicated in a much earlier post, 4 to 5 month ago) When I bought new my bike, (YZ) back in Dec of 2001, I got such a good deal on it ($1100.00 less then any other dealer, and $1200.00 less then any new WR I could find) I couldn't pass it up. ?

I'm just taking my time adding all the WR stuff to my YZ.

Gary,

I don't know if you remember me, but I was @ the 1st I-5 track day on my WR426, which now looks just like a YZ, I have done all the mods to convert to YZ and boy i'm glad I did, the sub frame does not allow you to mount the reserve tank ?, but I took mine off and have never had a problem.

To me this is the best mod you can do to a WR ?
