Hand Guards/deflectors

I am thinking of getting a pair of guards for my 04 wr450. to protect my hands and my levers. I have heard that the Acerbis are ok but also heard the Euro Engineering Guards are better. I bent my brake handle when dumping the bike last week and trying to avoid this and smacking branches with my hands at the same time. Anyone have any experience or preferences they could share.

Get the Cycra if you crash a lot. They have a good triple clamp mount that keeps the bark busters from rotating during a crash. ?

Can you guys get the officil Yamaha ones over there in the US, they are at main dealers here in the UK? I went for the acerbis plastic ones, and hey are a bit tricky to fit, but seem ok. They are as expensisve as Yamaha ones and I wish with hindsight I'd gone OEM.

BTW I have pretty big hands but have found the acerbis offer plenty of clearance, (no trapped hands on spills!)

Sucks when you put the bike down and scratch them up the first time... oh well.

Ive had really good luck with acerbis guards. just make sure you get the aluminum reinforced ones if you crash alot the straigth plastic ones are okay just for branches but you'll pop levers like crazy.

Same here. Pro-Rally hand guards work great for my '04. I'm not sure why some people have trouble mounting them but with the stock bars I had mine on in less than 20 minutes. I ordered mine from Rocky Mountain and had them in 3 days ?

I have the Cyrca's with the triple clamps on mine, haven't broken a lever, or my hand, since I put them on there. the Triple clamp mounts will need some modifying to work with the headlight bracket on the WR. I used a bench grinder to grind out about a 1/4 by 1 inch section and fliped the plastic guide for the cable to the other side to get it to work right.

Fastway makes some that are integrated with their bar-clamp, for one sturdy arrangement that lets your Pro Taper (or equivalent) bars still flex as they were designed to. They are pretty, STRONG, and I think, the best. I rode with a group of 25 guys last week for 3 days and, seriously, had guys asking me about them nonstop. I'd catch them petting the damn things! ?

My friends and I (2x wr426 + 1BRP) here all ride with enduro eng. They are just impossible to destroy. Very tough material...
