Pick up my 2001 XR650R tomorrow! Any tips on oil to use for break in as well as break in procedures?

Any experienced input is much appreciated!

Thanks.

Jay

In the handbook it says 15 miles of easy riding or something similar to that. Thats what I did. I'll see if I can find out more information in the handbook on what exactly the "Easy Riding" part was since I cant remember word for word about what to do for those 15 miles.

Install the power-up kit first thing (It makes them run cooler) and throw the thermastat away (they stick half open). Other than that try to heat cycle it about 5 times.

Good Luck,
Todd

P.S. That power-up kit will be the best $100 you ever spent.

Does it take forever to warm up without the thermostat?

What's the proper procedure for removing it (i.e. just run a longer piece of hose?)

On the 5 heat cycles how long do you recommend I ride it for?

Thanks for you time.
