I gave the dealer some cash to hold my bike for me til next week. I'm finally gonna get a brand new bike! ? I spent a good hour just sitting on it wishing there was gas in the tank so I could ride it... should be picking it up wednesday or thursday!

Man this next week is gonna go by awfully slow.

Chevy, I also just picked up a new 2004 WR450F, still adding goodies, have zero miles on it still. I'm waiting for paperwork to title/license it, so until then, no ride. I have my WR426F, but wont ride it as its for sale in the trader now. My luck, if I take it for a spin, I'll fall, break something right before someone wants to buy it! So I'm not touching it! ?

That really is a step up from your old bike.

My tired old 2001 still runs great, especially with the auto deco cam. If I hadn't done the cam mod, I'd realllllly want a new 450. I just bought a remote hot start after all this time. That's the only new thing I get.

It is a pretty big step from the KLR but I rode several thousand miles as a youngster on alot of different bikes... I was kinda worried I'd forgotten all I learned back then after 8 away from the hobby, so I bought the KLR as a refresher bike so I wouldnt hop on a brand new WR and total it first thing. After a couple months on the KLR It's all come back to me and I'm begging for more power. Now that I'm moving up to the WR the wife will be riding the KLR for awhile until she's ready for a upgrade.

Hey cowboy, I have had mine for 8 days, still zero miles, I've done the whole graphics kit/seat cover, skid plates, frame gaurds, trail tech, tail bag add ons. Here is a picture of it in pristine condition. Its a 2004 WR450F.

This should get you motivated. This one replaces my WR426F which I still own, but its for sale.

Beautiful bike ? I'm ordering some goodies for mine too (full set of Rooster Performance guards, yamaha frame guards, handguards, pro taper bars ect) but I'll probably do the break in ride with the bike bone stock. you've got far more will power than I've got if you can stare at that bike for 8 days and not give in to the urdge to ride it

What brand skidplate and fender bag is that?

The skidplate is a Moose® and the tail bag is also a Moose®. The tail bag fits the fender curve as if it was specifically made for it. I picked it up from "Cyclegear" for $42, I see it in my Dennis Kirk catalog under item# 501433 and if you want it in black, use 503101 The skidplate number for DK is 514330. My radiator guards are Devol, frame guards are also Devol. I also have 2 "Bridgestone Untra Duty" tubes, I'll pop those in tomorrow. These add some extra weight, but I've never had a flat with these and the last thing I like to do is to break down and burden/ruin my riding buds day, turning it into a recovery effort, even though, they would help and wouldnt mind, I'd rather we all just go riding. Let us know when you get the new scoot! ? ANd you'll throw rocks at that KLX250! The WR450F is king of the woods IMHO!

Cool thanks for the info. I think I'll order one of those bags.. it looks good and I need some kind of storage on the bike.

I haven't decided what brand skidplate to get yet... my original intention was to get one of Rooster's but I emailed them several days ago asking a few questions and never got a response... if thats the kind of service they offer I think I'll look elsewhere. ?

I'm thinking Devol's skidplate and rad guards and possibly rooster front and rear brake rotor guards. I've already ordered the Yamaha frame guards, I should get them the day I get the bike.

These words (from litterally hundreds of people) is what made the decision to buy this bike an easy one. For years I've been riding mediocre used bikes that nickle and dime me to death... finally I'll have a brand new one with more than enough power

I put on the GYT-R skid plate, and its great, light but thick, and a breeze to install, it lined up perfectly.

I have a Devol on my 99 WR400, and it is not as nice.

Hmm, care to elaborate on what you don't like about the Devol?

I wish I could look at both of them in person but all I've got to go on is online pictures... and from those it looks to me like the devol does a better job of covering the frame rails and water pump area. I haven't ordered either yet... so I welcome your opinion.

That is one of the finest looking bikes I've ever seen! It's almost a shame to take it out and get her dirty......

I have about 8 miles on it, just buzzing out to the mail box, around my cul-de-sac and visiting the neighbor, but condition is still the same, still hasnt seen dirt yet. It will be 2 weeks old to me friday. I'd would of ridden it this weekend with my buddies, but no paperwork for title/license has come in yet. Its been mailed, so I'm expecting it anyday now. And for Cowboy, the Moose skid plate I have (you can see its fit in the picture, if you need more detailed close ups, I can email you directly) has superb coverage, yet, doesnt hang way out either. It was one of the factors I was looking for also. The Devol has some extra venting in the front, but I didnt want a bunch of mud ending up behind it, so went this route. My WR426F had a similar one, I think it was White Bros.

I second the Devol skidplate. Most skidplates are thick and bulky that come with heavy mounting hardware. The Devol is thinner,vented and uses bolts that mount up where the stocker went. To each his own.. ?

well I got my bike yesterday, took it down to my parents farm and spent all afternoon yesterday and most the day today riding it.

Only mod so far is I pulled the exhaust cork out. Man this thing runs ?

I'm not ashamed to say I was down right scared of it for the first 20 minutes or so... that power comes on strong and fast and yanks the front wheel up like its filled with helium. I was riding around like a little girl afraid to twist the throttle too hard at first

Today on the other hand I was flying across fields with the front tire lofted grinning like this guy ---> I think I've still got some bugs in my teeth to prove it.

I should be getting all the parts I ordered from yamaha in the next couple days (including the YZ throttle stop) The carb seems pretty well adjusted from the dealer... it has alittle hesitation off idle and sometimes sounds like its gonna die when you're coasting down a hill. I'll be ordering a JD kit from TT this week too.

I forgot to mention.... after putting around 30 miles on the WR, I hopped on the ol KLR to move it. I rode it around in a circle and asked my wife "Damn, what's wrong with this thing?" her response was "it's missing about 30 horsepower" lol Its hard to beleive how gutless it feels after getting off the WR.

Needless to say I love my new bike! ?
