This was timely for me; I need to upgrade my stock tires before I hurt myself.

I bought my 1994 Honda XR600R in March 2009, really spend a lot of time looking at this site for info, but many of the threads are dated. I do wish it could be more active and up to date.

I run the Kenda trials tires but I don't ride off road much, mainly rural gravel roads, fire roads, etc.
XR is a dream on these fast back roads.

My XR was converted via baja kit to be street legal down in Texas, I found some interesting items on Thumper Talk, Dual Star handlebar mounded mirror, Boliviasport woodie tank cover, erc.

I love my XR and have no plans to ever part with it.

Is ATF ok to use in my 650L

Only in the dry sump portion of your motor. It's too thick for the upper half.

If you still want some off road ability, IRC GP110's are pretty sticky on road and not terrifying off road. They're also cheap. If you want street only, Dunlop GT501 rear and Avon Venom X front are the stickiest DOT legal bias ply 18/21 combo you can get. The GT501 is a better tire, but with the XR's rear bias you're doing good there.

Damn this is an old thread.

Anyhow...

Pirelli MT43 on the rear. A DOT rated trials tire. It's like cheating. I think all or almost all of the Pirelli fronts are also DOT rated. Makes for a great combo.
