What type of oil do you use??

I was thinking full synthetic on my 2004 yz405f. What type do you guys recomend.

I used to run Mobil 1 15-50 (red cap) but switched back to Yamalube. I change my oil after every 3 rides so I wasn't getting much use out of the synthetic.

Thats why I use yamalube, because thats what yamaha recommends. Do any of you other guys think your going to get even 20 more hours of engine life for using something different? Are you going to keep your bike until the engine wears out? If so, all the extra money you spent on your "magic oil" would pay for a engine rebuild. LOL

And whats the deal with changing your oil so often "every 3 rides"? What are you riding 20 hours each time you ride?

I know the my 04 yz450's engine is advanced, but it not going to the moon, and none of your bike's engines are either.LOL

My bike will be running just as good as any of yours, just by using yamalube, keeping the air filter clean, and don't forget your coolant service ?

If you just can't help but use a different oil, just make sure if made for motorcyles, not cars too. It has to be non-friction modified. ?

I use mobile 1 red cap now for the last 3 oil changes. It seems to work fine and it costs alot less than the yamalube wich is what i always used before. Plus its full synthetic. Oh ya and I change my oil every 10-15 hours and knock on wood ive never had an issue or needed an ajustment.

Maybe you should look at your oil when you change it. I change mine every other ride and clean the filter every other oil change. Let me tell you, it's ready to come out of there! It has NOTHING to do with the oil but rather the contaminants. Mine is filthy with clutch material and the standard run of the mill metal shavings. If you think your 450 will last by running 20 hours per oil change then you either trail ride or your in for a big surprise.

Of course when your engine blows you will blame it on Yamaha and not your maintenance (or lack there of).

Mobil one is cheaper than Yamalube ("Your Magic Oil") and works as good or better. Of course Yamaha recommends it.....that is what they sell. Yamaha also sells you a bike with crappy bars and a Dunlop 739 tire on the front...does that make it right ?? NO!!!!

The theory of frequent oil changes has been proven time and time again. Don't learn the hard way...change your OIL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I won't say "I told you so")

Again...Mobile 1 Fully Syn 15w-50 (red cap) performance driving oil. Since I run a biochemistry lab I have access to some equipment for testing viscosity and suspended particulate matter. I found after 20 hours of riding my oil is still in great condition. Of course metal particles are there and are proportional to ride time, the viscosity is like new...I would suspect that the oil could last 60 hours. ?

I don't what it is with these oil threads. Some people just don't seem to get "it." The riding I do is about as bad for my bike as the ride from the pits to the track is for you hardcore racer guys, and I still change it every other ride.

I like the M1 red cap because it's cheaper than Yamalube, I think it's better than yamalube, and it's easier to get than Yamalube.

Personally, I could care less what others run in their bikes. I could see a guy pour crisco in his, and laugh and walk away. I just don't understand why everyone makes such a big deal out of what other people run.

I have been running red cap since the first oil change, and will continue running it.

You have some good points, but let me say a few things.

When I change my oil and pull those 5 or so different plugs I notice that some of it looks worse than the rest of the oil and some oil looks fairly new compared to the oil from the plugs on the bottom. Why is this? Because the clutch and gear box oil doesn't mix with the oil the piston uses. The piston oil is most critical, and thanks to yamaha's engine's serperate oil compartments the piston oil stays cleaner longer.

Do me a favor and add up how much money you are spending by changing your oil every other time you ride. I'm also interested in how often you ride. If you ride every day for about an hour and a half like I do, there is no f..ing way I could aford to spend, not just the money, but time to change the oil every other time I ride. I'm not saying your wrong or doing something stupid for changing oil that often. If I had a million dollars and a mech working for me I would have him change oil and filter and air filter every time I rode it!

You make good points about yamaha selling the oil and all? Mobile is a great oil maker too. Is the oil your using non-friction modified? Does it say it for "Motorcyles"? Not tring to be a wise A$$, seriously asking. Because if it is I would like to take a look at it.?

And no I don't trail ride, the YZ450 is not a trail bike. I've had a motocross style track ( about 3.5 acres ) since I was a kid. My dad loves building jumps and banking up corners ect. It looks really good, if any of yall live near Memphis TN let me know and you can come ride
