Need to find the loudest PIPE!

Recommended Posts

Silencers are totally unnecessary for power production. "Back in the Day", no four stroke race bike ever had one.

Having said that, a lot has been learned since 1975. And I'm not talking about suspension. Did you know that a stone stock '04 YZ250F Makes more horsepower than all but one of the 250 2 strokes in the '85 Dirt Rider 250 shootout?

Designers like Doug Dubach and others have found innovative ways of pulling power out of modern four strokes and keeping the noise down at the same time. Lower noise levels reduce rider fatigue, and better silencer designs mean you don't have be loud to sound good, either.

So, which do you want, loud, or powerful? I can send you proper dimensions for a megaphone that any shop student could roll up for you and would be THUNDEROUS on a 426, but it very well might not make as much power as a Dr.D or an FMF T4.

Do you realize that some states don't give a $hit and if you are on your own 500 acre piece of land, who cares if you are out by yourself and your exhaust is 120db ?

State laws aren't the biggest problem, its the local sound ordinances that will be your biggest enemy.

One pissy neighbor can get you shutdown.

P.S. Im not saying anybody is stupid, but I am saying you need to be aware of how far the sound of your bike is traveling.

It Does!!!!

WRONG!!!!!!!!!

Waushugal Washington National track was nearly shut down and just avoided a very costly lawsuit - all due to noise (according to RacerX web site

Did you read the article????? The main problem with noise there was the loud speaker system. Try again.

SHOW ME THE PROOF!!!!

Give me a link to closure info. Don't worry, you can't, cause it doesn't exsist. Check the BRC web site. They have tons of info on closure and none are because of noise.

It's a urban myth, like Santa or the Easter Bunny. Lots believe it but there is no proof

Now is it just good manners in lots of situations to run a quite pipe, you bet. But you don't know what this guy is using the bike for.

SHOW ME THE PROOF!!!!

Come to the next meeting in St. Lucie County. We are trying to get an OHV park opened, and guess what one of the biggest arguments AGAINST the park is? Noise. People don't want it in their area because of the noise. There is your proof. If you want to hear it first hand then PM me and I will post the flyer here that includes the address for the meeting and you can come attend and hear for yourself. At every meeting someone stands up and argues that the area will cause too much noise. Are you really that ignorant as to think that people don't complain because of noise?

I got an idea, post the proof. Besides the statement was that areas are being shut down not that areas are not being allowed to open. Still no proof. Just "he said" or "she said". You want proof of while areas are really being shut down I'll provided, just ask and it won't be "I heard" or "at a meeting one time". I will give links to eviromental impact studies, court decisions, or the Serria Clubs web site and position on off road vehicles (hint; it doesn't mention sound).

Sound is an issue but don't blow it up into what it's not!!!

here we are nowhere near anyones private property... the pipe actually gives the mountain bikers and horseback riders plenty of time to get off the trail before I get there

I am always polite and give them the right of way. Also ask if there is anyone behind them.

Below is a link to a great editorial from Bill Dart, the head of the Blue Ribbon Coalition that addresses this issue. No rational person would argue that having quieter bikes is better for the image of the sport. Why is it so important to have bikes be so loud? Also, it's not just spotted owls and neighbors that are annoyed by excessive noise, it's fellow riders, like me.

Yep it's an editorial, not proof. Whats so hard about providing proof??? I can provide proof of actual closures due to other issues besides noise. By the way Mr. Dart and I have debated this issue on the envirom. forum. He can provide no proof. Everything he has provided as evidence hasn't panned out.

As they say "SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!"

No one has provided a link yet in this thread, just he said, she said. I'm not saying noise isn't an issue but it's not closing areas. Come on people think for yourself, look at the evidence, and make your mind up on the facts, not the hype. I need to get a Tshirt that says "Don't believe the hype"

I just have to give you some props for standing up against everyone so far ?. I am by no means up on all the noise issues because I have never experienced them but it seems you have a valid point. They don't close airports because of noise, people just move

What's this boneheads name? enduro something? Oh yeah, dog. Well no wonder why you want a loud pipe. So everyone in FRONT of you can hear you!

Where do you morons come up with this stuff?????

Loud pipes aren't an issue????

Even the AMA is currently working on some sort of solution to the loud four stroke problem because of complaints at tracks EVERYWHERE! And by people who are starting to be heard about their complaints. Of course, we as racers like the loud sound, me included, but all it's doing is putting the wrong idea in people's heads. Unfortunately, those "people" are the ones that usually have the power to stop us at what we love to do.

So...aaaah...enduropuppy, do a little homework BEFORE you start annoying the wrong people...people who no matter what you say or do, you WILL NOT convince them that your loud bike sounds cool. ?

Don't worry though...some day when you grow up you'll understand the importance of the phrase.."loud pipes lose rights."

Umm, I think it's "loud pipes save lives" sponsored by your local chopper group  Those things are way louder than our dirtbikes and nobody stops them from riding by your house at 2am shaking the windows........I don't understand why its so different being in the dirt ?

So everyone in FRONT of you can hear you!

My speed has nothing to do with the argument, but for what it's worth I'm an A rider in the Rocky Mtn. Enduro Curcuit and finshed 2nd Vet A last year and 6th Open A in the Texas Enduro Curcuit.

Loud pipes aren't an issue????

Randy you have a reading comprehension problem?? Go back and read my post again. Notice I say that noise is an issue, just that it doesn't close areas.

So...aaaah...enduropuppy, do a little homework BEFORE you start annoying the wrong people

Haaa, like you. Your just one of the morons that claim something with no proof. The best you got is name calling. Grow up moron.

Heres some proof of a real closure, just in case you don't get the concept. Notice no mention of sound in the article.

Real closure info

Can any of you that cry sound closes areas provide anything like this?? Or would you rather be like Randy and resort to name calling?

Thanks for the complement. Contray to what Randy says I have been in this debate for well over a year now. I have researched every possible closure that has been give to me, many by Bill Dart himself. Only one has held anything to it, a 300 acre area in Oregon Dunes that was provided and researched by a very intelligent KevXR here on TT. But even that has something too it. But I'm over looking up others "leads" and ask for proof now. If people are really interested in the debate there are many pages of it on the "Land use/Legislation" forum here on TT.

It is my belief that noise is an issue but it needs to be put in it's proper place. Also I have a Q system for my WR which more than meets almost all the noise req. out there.

I just feel that the misinfomation about noise is causing many to fight the wrong battles on closure issues, wasting, time, effort and money.

I ride in a local sand pit. Being in NJ its illegal to ride there. If I take my YZ450 there I always get booted out by the cops. If I take my quieter WR450 no one bothers me.

We do stealth riding around here and a quiet bike is a plus.
