Jetting Settings

Recommended Posts

Folks:

Will have this sticky up top so you can add Jetting settings you have for your R or X.

Please keep it to that, no off-side discussions. Want to keep this post for jetting info for folks so they dont have to dig through a bunch of discussion to get to what is working for us and where/how we ride.!

?

Thanx!

I'm getting ready to tear apart my new CRF250x.....before I buy a bunch of parts I don't need, here's a question...

...what size main jets does JD include in the jetting kit for the X? I know I'll have to pick up a #42 pilot and an alternate size leak jet from Honda. I'd probably pick up at the same time a main jet or two not included by JD.

Thanks!

I finally set aside some time to dig into the jetting on the wife's X since it had been exhibiting signs of being quite lean. Here's what I went with:

150 main

stock needle, dropped clip two slots

45 pilot

55 leak jet

fuel screw two out

motor/exhaust other than jetting changes is bone stock

Took it for a short zip up the street. WOW!!!! Major difference from stock jetting. Absolutely 100% ZERO bog! Slow to an absolute crawl, crank the throttle all the way open immediately and up comes the front end. NICE! Bike had a terrible bog/hesitation before but sure doesn't now. I can't believe and am frankly rather annoyed at the fact that these things come so unbelievably lean from the factory. I've seen bikes one or maybe two steps off on the main but a 130 to a 150?? ?

Temps are low 90s, humidity in the 50s, elevation near 1000.

I have seen some people asking how to obtain the size 55 Leak Jet (70 is stock). 55 is stock for the 450 and is available through Honda as part # 99108-MEB-0550.

Does anyone know a good source to obtain other sizes, say 65, 60, etc? Actually they probably go in steps of 2 or 3 since they're Keihin.

So Cal riding. Applied block off. Stock exhaust, air filter with screen. Snorkel cut. 14-50 gearing. 140 mj, 42 pilot, air screw 2 1/2 and needle second position from bottom. Just got back from Colo, 9000-13000' 130 mj and clip in mid position. Ran clean but definitly less power.

You're probably a little rich if the baffle is still in. At the same altitude in CO, I ran a 130 main and 42 pilot with the baffle out and the mods listed below. I could hardly tell a difference in power. Out of the 25 bikes in our group, the only ones that could outrun me were an XR650 and a WR450F. I climbed some hellacious hills...the only problem I had was just hangin' on!!

Hey everybody, I'm a carb novice and I'm trying to find a good tutorial geared specifically for motorcycle carbs (even more specifically, the carb on my X!). Does anyone know of any good "carbs for idiots" resources? I bought the service manual but it understandably assumes basic knowledge...that I don't have.... Thanks.

I called up PRO CIRCUIT today and they told me for a stock 2005 R use the following:

MAIN: 162

PILOT: 42

NEEDLE: NCYR 3rd from top

FUEL SCREW: 2 turns out

LEAK JET: 55

What does everybody think about this?

That main and needle sounds very lean. That is the factory recommended settings to use with the optional 94dB muffler that came with my bike.
