FWIW, I have both, see my sig. I ride both a lot. They both have thier strong points and thier weak points. The most important part of the bike is the rider, period.

This is one of the most retarded threads I've opened in quite a while. Marcus, I think I can speak for everyone that we are now all dumber for having read your post.

I just got off a WR426 and bought an 04' 300 EXC. On the scales, it's over 40 lbs. lighter wet without fuel than the WR. I promise you that the 300 not only has plenty of low end but it has enough hp to out accelerate my 426 that was YZ timed as well. Hopefully for you, the cranial/rectal inversion you are now experiencing will end soon. ?

By the way, just keep riding your WR without working on it or changing the oil. When it won't start, try checking the valve clearance.

one point about 2strokes in the bush i will make is: 2-smokers don't have any engine braking. can be worked around, but i don't like to.

Obviously, you haven't ridden a new 300. ? Even the KTM450 EXC which is 10 lbs. lighter than the WR's feels like a barge compared to this bike.

Simon, the engine braking is one feature of the 4-strokes that I don't like and have never been able to get used to. I'll be back on a 450, 4-stroke as soon as they lose 20+ lbs. Until then, this bike lets me go faster for a much longer period of time than my 426 did. If they don't lighten up the off road versions, I see a CRF450R with a Rekluse clutch as my next ride.

Yeah,the 300's aren't "explosive" MX bikes, they have a wide ratio tranny that is set up for off-road.The 300 MXC has the MX tranny,but again the motor just doesn't explode out of corners like the yzf.

When people talk about how great the 300's are, most people are talking about off-road.

if u are serious about anything u dont know crap about 4 strokes.

when i got my wr 450 and rode it stock the only time i couldnt feel the power band was before i ground down the throttle stop. once i did that i took it out and it had a bigger powerband then my last bike which was a two stroke yz 85. i sure hope your not serious about any of those things u said and if u were i hope u dont work on ur own bike... by the way this was to marcumsborg or wat ever his name is./

This is one of my favorite threads by the infamous MM!! I am so glad this baby got bumped so I could read it again. I think that the TT admin. should look into starting a daily thread called, "Ask Marcus". People could post questions about how fast their bikes are, or which bike's can beat certain quads, in a drag race, or even maybe, "I've got a broken power band, do I need to take the tank off to change it ??" Just kidding Marcus, but seriously, I spent alot more time on TT, when you were posting 26 posts/day! Honestly, if you had your own forum, I bet it would be the busiest forum on TT !! ?

I agree, very sad. But funny at the same time. I found myself reading the whole thread in disbelief. I wonder if I've ever been hopelessly misguided? Perpetuating this is giving a negative portrayal TTers. Sometimes you have to just let it go.
