on my 99 400 it had stock jetting and i where i live now its over 6000 ft above sea level and it was killing some times after a sudden stop and stalled really really easy and i checked to plug and it had a little excessive carbon build up and up i bumped the needle clip down one to the 3rd position to lean it out and turned the fuel screw in a 1/4 turn now it backfires really bad when slowing down and won't run with hot start on but i think its the pilot jet ? but runs like a champ when you get it open what do i need to do ?

Do you have a manual? There is a diagram and a section on how to tune for throttle opening's. If you dont I will try to get it on here for you.
