Whats Your Best Reason (Excuse) for a New Ride

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for inspiration here on the lines people have used to ensure the other half Ok's the purchase of a new bike!!! ?:D

I have a WR400 with all the goodies I can think of, but, its a '98 and its getting tired and I have the option to buy a WR426 2002 Model BRAND NEW, 0 miles, 12 months guarantee (Some advantages to living in Switzerland) with a 35%+ discount off of new !!! ?

How can I refuse??? Well I cant, but I have a wife who may think differently!!!

So let me have em...what have you told your significant others in support of your quest for new blue ??:awww:

The only reason I got my new 426 was because someone stole my YZ400 out of my garage 1 month after I bought it. Even then I had to wait another 4 months before I could get the 426. Good luck though, surely she will understand. But then again, I don't claim to know women at all. Just when you think you have them figured out, they go and change everything.

Tell her how much it will cost to 1-rebuild the old bike. 2- Buy a new '04-05 model. 3- Pick up this sweet deal on a new '02 bike. She has to understand the benefits of this reasoning. Good Luck - WR Dave. ?

You mean we're supposed to ask???

Oh man, if she ever finds that out I'm in big trouble. At least I bought her one too.

I control the finances in my house, so I handled it by telling her, "I'm buying us dirtbikes honey." And that worked fine for me.

I'm looking at a 300 EXC for 05. I told the wife it will give me more time to spend with her since I won't have to work on a brand new bike. ?

I also talked about it constantly for the last 6 months so she's sick of hearing about the bike and finally said just get it.

I used this for the purchase of my bike, but it only works if your in your thirty's or so. I told her that I wanted a first class bike, now, because I don't know how much longer I can ride aggressively and really push it. She felt bad for me and happily agreed to the bike. I'll try it agian when I turn 40 (I'm 38) ?

LOL, that is what I did. I complained about my 250 needing some work and not having enough power for me to get up hills and stuff. Then I basically said to her, you know what... later this year I am going to buy a WR450... then talked about it all the time and then one day she calls me up to go pick up the new WR450 she bought for me... it rocked.

So, I hadn't had a dirtbike since I was 15 or so, and coming up on my 31st Bday, I had been talking a lot about bikes, buying the magazines, and leaving WR426 pamphlets laying all over the house.

My birthday was on a Saturday, and that morning, my wife tells me she hadn't had any time to go pick up my present, but had intended on buying me a nice pool cue. Then she said "let's go out right now and pick one up for you"! Ok, cool, I really wanted one, and it was a little pricey, but, hey, she said so! We get to the pool store, and they were closed. :awww:

We left there, and were driving home, and I told her, "well, since you can't get me a pool stick for my birthday, I guess you'll have to get me a dirtbike instead, cause the bike shop IS open on Saturday!" ? Laugh, laugh, right?

While passing the next exit, she looks at me and says "isn't that the way to the bike shop?"

"Uh, yeah, it is if you want a Suzuki or Kawasaki, but I want a Yamaha and that's the next exit."

"Ok" she says.

{{insert sound of screeching rubber and video of my dodge dakota swerving across three lanes of traffic}}

That was all it took!

My wife is the best! Last year, she got me Pro-Tapers, grips and handguards. This year, an IMS tank and SDG tall YZ seat.

I think I'll keep her! ? Oh, and for her birthday this year, I got her a TTR125, her first dirtbike.

No excuse here, we talk about it and it's done. My wife rides too so she understands.

I counted them all up the other day. In the almost 20 years that I have been married I've had 32 motorcycles and I now own 7. I find it best to used the time-honored "Jesuit Principle"... (It is easier to ask for forgiveness, than it is to ask for permission) ?

That one is a tried and tested method. ? Works on partners. Works on moms and dads too...................anything for a bit of peace! :awww:?

Most of them don't know the difference between one bike and the other. Buy a bike the same colour and tell her you upgraded the plastics and graphics. They don't need to know how much you spend !!! Works everytime.

A friend of mine did this,up graded his yellow DRZs model to an offroad. I didn't even know until I seen his bike at the dealer two months latter.
