i just recently purchased a 1999 yz 400 and i love it. but i was talking to a 2 stroke enthusiast and he said that they tend to get piston slap and i should change the piston before i ride it, is this a load of crap or is it something i should be concerned about and if so what precaustions should i take and any general information about it is appreciated thanks mike h.

I had a 98 400 that was 4 years old before anything was even touched. You might want to do the top end and check the valves if the previous owners didnt do it but you should be fine.

got a friend with the same bike, my bro has the wr and, i've had the 426 and the 450. i haven't seen anyone of the 4-strokes that i've ridden with in the last 4 years have piston slap but, have seen 2 strokes have it. not saying that it couldn't just haven't seen it or heard of it. just do your basic maintenance and ride the hell out of it.

Mobil 1 15w-50 red cap.

1) It's a synthetic

2) It's available everywhere, and on weekends

3) It's reasonably priced

4) Proven track record with TTr's

the 400 is very heavy and dives into turns!!! Get a 04 450f
very light and powerefull. DOn't end up behind your friends on the track or on the ground all of the time.

It's also probably 3 times what he paid for the 400
