Whasup , first post here, looks like a cool forum.
Just bought a 01 yz426f about two days ago. From what little I have gotten to ride it I love it.What good/bad things do ya'll have to say about the 426.
Oh yeah , what cuss words do you use and in what order do you use them in to get this thing to start.

Welcome; I've never had a problem starting mine. Follow the drill exactly and don't ever blip the throttle. Also, when warm don't use the hot start button. This works for me. Others may beg to differ, but I've told everyone I know that the starting woes of the 426 are a myth, or at least they're self inflicted.

This is a great place for information and entertainment! Good luck.

Bear, welcome to the fam... I don't have a 426, but from what I've heard the starting problems are usually self inflicted as well. My 98Z400 starts right away, ALL the time, so I think it's all in the drill. Do a search on starting and you'll find more posts than you know what to do with...

Welcome Bear,
I have an 01' 426 myself and it starts everytime when warm first kick and I rarely ever use the hotstart, when cold usually 3 to 4 kicks it fires right up. I have found though according to varying conditions to where people live that everyone's bike has different starting and jetting characteristics. Good luck and enjoy the best dirtbike ever made, Frank :)

Welcome! And ditto on what Frank said. Once you get the drill down it should start right up. If you've kicked it 20 or 30 times and still no fire then change the spark plug (learned this the hard way). :)

It works, these guys pointed me in the right direction, and now I have ridden 4 times since Sunday with no problems whatsoever starting it. Now if I could just get more air when I jump it! :)

IF IT HAS SAT FOR MORE THAN A FEW DAYS GIVE THE THROTTLE ONE QUICK OPENING..SOME FUEL PRIMED IN THE CYLINDER THATS ALL! NO MORE AND STAY AWAY FROM THE THROTTLE. GRAP THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR FOR SOME LEVERAGE, THEN GO THROUGH THE DRILL. SHOULD START FIRST KICK.
WHEN WARM, USE THE HOT START BUTTON, AND INSTEAD OF FINDING THE HARD SPOT AND RELEASING THE COMPRESSION RELEASE, PRETEND YOU HAVE A TWO STROKE, GO TO THE TOP OF THE STROKE, PULL IN THE COMPRESSION RELEASE AND KICK LIKE A TWO STROKE..ONE SMOOTH HARD KICK ALL THE WAY THROUGH..BUT... YOU WILL RELEASE THE COMP RELEASE ABOUT 3/4 THROUGH THE DOWN STROKE, WHEN THE ARM IS A BIT ABOVE BEING LEVEL TO THE GROUND. WHAMO IT STARTS. TAKES A FEW TRIES TO GET USED TO IT BUT ONCE YOU DO THIS WILL WORK FIRST KICK ALMOST EVERYTIME. TRY IT YOU'LL SEE.
