Fuel

unless your riding your bike at 30,000 feet, and its wquipped with braided stainless fuel lines, dont use av gas. there a reason they call it AV Gas. one day people will figure this out.

Been using AV gas LL100 for about 8 years mixed 50/50 with 91 octane pump gas...Guess I'm too stupid to realize I will "melt something" Guess I will change what has worked well for me for the past 8 years in 2 and 4 stroke race motors.....stupid me.

Maybe I am wrong but I was under the impression that high octane fuel burns cooler because it burns very quick which makes a very powerful explosion. Lower octane fuel burns slower and does not give the punch like the high octane, and it is much cleaner and pure which would lower the deposits! ?

No. High octane fuel burns slower, this is why it is less likely to detonate.

Higher octane fuels also carry less heat energy (combusted) per unit weight, so you actually loose power when you run higher octane fuel than you need.

Thumper38,

Avgas sounds great but is not meant to be run in these engines.

I am an airline pilot an have been an avid general aviaiton/aircraft owner for over 15yrs. AVgas, or 100LL (blue in color)(low-lead) is very dry when it burns. It will dry out anything with rubber in the engine/carb unless specifically made to handle it. I doubt it will melt anything as stated in other posts, but your better off running premium unleaded from the local gas station.

P.S. Not even all small airplanes can burn 100LL very efficiently, as it's to harsh and we burn 80 octane which is red in color.

Good Luck ?

If you want a nice smell mix your pump fuel (92 oct.) with some cam2 or VP. This not too abusive to your bike, but it is not the secret weapon some people think it is.

I have found out for me (I am only speaking for me) that suspension upgrades have improved my speed and lap times for than any go fast parts. I even put the stock exhaust back on!

Isn’t JET A fuel pretty much the same thing as kerosene?

I run Turbo Blue in my bike, its like 110 octane an smells goooood when burned

do i need it? nah. wasting money? ya. but what do i care? i like the smell ?

actually my bike loves the high end stuff, i ran 93 in it and it ran kinda crappy. so i could either do something about that to make it work, or just continue to use the smell good gas. heheheh

I have been running avgas 100LL in my bikes both 2&4 strokes for years as well as my drag racing cars instead of race gas and it runs wonderfull.I usually mix it with about 40% regular gas and I still get the benifits of it.It runs nice and clean and consistant.I have pulled a couple of engines apart after running it for some time and have never found any problems internally.I do not find any deposits on the spark plugs either.I am also an aircraft mechanic and I have never seen it do any damage to those engines either.Avgas does not use the same octane rating as pump gas.Which here in Canada is Ron+Mon/2.I can't compare it directly but it definitly does not have preignition problems under heavy loads /high ambiant air temps. The fuel is designed to handle the loads of high compresion and Turbocharged engines. You will definitly not burn up your engine or eat up fuel lines or anything wierd with this fuel. One other thing that is nice is that avgas has a very long shelf life so it keeps in storage for up to 2 years. It is also oxigenated which can help you make more power. With the price of fuel here in Canada about $1.10 per liter for premium at times, you can give avgas a try for about $1.05 per liter.I say give it a shot and if you personally don't find any benifits don't bother to buy more. The bit of lead in it should also help to protect those Titainium valves from wear.

I was just about to get into an arguement about this over on the honda board when I said that running 110 would make your bike run slower. They didnt believe me. I have felt the difference. They were talking about jetting and it has nothing to do with jetting. Octane is too high period.

Hi,

you like the colour?...run it!!!!.....you expect performance gains?...leave it!!!!!

Stock japanese dirt bike engines are designed to run on premium pump gas and every single octane more than that is just overkill, as long as your engine is not modified with high compression pistons and such things!!!

As posted in an other reply here, save the money and find a good suspension tuner....this will boost your lap times!!!!

I would suggest VP u4 fuel, mix half and half with 92 pumped gas. Gives you a good punch without timing or compression mods. Take a look at VP's web site for all the information concearning octain, explosion speeds, etc. ?

For "optimal" performance you want to run as low an octane number as you can and not detonate. If you are running some other fuel that has high octane, you may be noticing benefits the stem from other differences in the fuel and not the octane.
