need help with how to set timing on old yz 2 stroke.air is coming through carb when kicked over

Check the reeds, sounds like one may be broken.

Ditto on the reeds

Need more input what year,

Timing really should not matter, all yz's after 74 had CDI so its a matter of just aligning the stator marks

I agree with these guys.. check the reeds. You definitely have a leak between the carb and the cylinder. If it is an older bike, my first guess would be the reed. But also check the boot that connects the carb to the cylinder. And check that gasket. Those boots and gaskets will dry rot after a while and let air in. Hope this helps.. :)
