ok i just bought this bike and im not so sure of the condition of the motor. it has a gear whine (like a gear drive on a car) it ticks, it overheats, and now i noticed when i start it i can feel air coming out of the decompression tube at the botom of the bike. if any of this seems normal or not please let me know i stopped riding it because i dont want to do any more damage to the motor if somthing is wrong. thanks for the help

Without hearing your motor, I can't say for sure, but......
These motors do make a lot of engine noise while running. They will also overheat if you idle for long periods with no air circulation. It is also normal to have some blow-by out of the breather hose.
With that said.....go ride your bike!

Com'on man with a question like that, a little info regarding your machine would be ever so helpful.

I hopped on my bud's '01 426 and it too makes a mean snapping noise (like when you get shocked) when you get started in 1st gear, Dont know what the heck it is, but I have heard from other 426 pilots that this is normal, when my 02' starts doin that crap I might dig a little deeper for the answer (heard it was the timing chain ???? you wrench heads heard of this ???) :)

Could the slapping noise be the chain slapping the rub plate against the swingarm? Im not shure what you are trying to describe. Go to motoman393's web site to see a fix for this.

The air coming out of the breather hose is normal. Any dirtbike will overheat if you are not moving. The radiator needs air to pass through it to be effective.

That all sounds very normal to me.

My policy is to ride the thing until it stops running. This has worked okay for me so far.
