Rode with Kirtwell at Nocona MX today. The bike feels much better..easier to move around on and feels narrower that the 426 plastic. I had a blast on it today!!

Satch, if you could help me get a line on a 450 subframe, I might do this swap as well. I like the looks of the 450, but love my 426, and since I can't afford a 450 this is the ticket! I plan on using a Clarke tank in my swap, so the sub and rear master are the big parts I'll need. The rest I can get from Yamaha or aftermarket

Satch , you should manufacture and sell the tank brackets!

Trust me it would be very easy to do. Not sure how many people out there with 426's would be willing to change everything though. If you could just do the tank and shrouds it would be a hot seller! I am surprised that one of the aftermarket companies haven't made a replacement tank and shrouds that look like the 03/04 but fit the stock mounts of the 426. This same upgrade would work for the 2000-2002 YZ426 and the 2001-2002 YZ250F.....there are alot of these bikes out there so a "kit" would be a hot seller I think.

I have a 03 450 subframe that I am going to list on Ebay. It was slightly tweaked, but I was able to bend it out straight. The owner of the bike did not want close, so he bought a new one.

I also have a lead on 2 factory 450 seats and one factory gas tank.
Email me if interested.

HI COWBOY.... Guess you are going to do the mod after all huh?

I did this 450 conversion too.... I converted my 2000 wr400f but difference is, I used back my stock 00 subframe. The subframe are similar, the difference is in the mounting; and since the 00 wr400f comes with steel subframes, I removed and repositioned the mountings (easier to weld on the steel subframes)

here is my bike with the motard wheels...

I added up the cost of all the parts in the 426-450 swap, and it's close to $1,000! That includes subframe, rear M/C, tank, air box, decompression cam, NOT including seat and plastics!

but you have to subtract the amount from the sale of your 426 parts.... I almost broke even and so did our friend here....

1 thing to note.... I bought my parts from one of the quad builder (you can try and join their forum and keep a look out on their sale section) cos this way you will be able to get your 450 parts relatively cheaper.

These are real numbers. Keep in mind it took me 6-8 months of slowly collecting parts until I did the conversion. IF you deceided you wanted to do the conversion RIGHT NOW it would cost alot in parts. Also I sold my old stuff on e-Bay. That is the way to go.

I figured it would take a while to get the parts together, especially if using ebay. I ordered the cam today from NCY for $91. I can get stuff from Acerbis for 50% off. It's the other stuff I'll need to wait on. AC subframes sell for about $180 new, so that's an option. The tank is a different story. . .

This is one of the coolest mods for the 426 to come along in a long time. Looks like there is lot of room between the top of the triple and the frame now. Nice going and thanks for sharing it with us. How much for the mounting kit?

We should call this the 09224262450mod.

Too funny! I was not the pioneer of this mod,...give that to DaveJ. The mounting brackets are easy to make. If you consider doing the mod let me know and I would be happy to help with information you might need.

Got to agree with Satch! All thanks to DaveJ. His comprehensive and detailed description on what need to be done was what drove me to do the mod. He even provided pictures on what to do.

Anyway, thats why I really love Thumpertalk.... Lotsa great mods.... :awww:

p.s. Satch... I really love your stock graphics!!! How much you paid for them? Any chance that you help me buy it (cos they dont have GYT-R stuff here in Singapore)

I will begin the transformation as soon as I get all the parts in. Any advice/recommendations? I'll need some detailed instructions on how to make that tank bracket. Any other considerations?
