I found out the 99 yz400 for 2,800 is being sold
by a small town car dealership. They told me the
bike has new rings, bearings and fork seals.I was
able to locate the motorcycle tech who worked on
the bike. This guy claims all he did was check out
and adjust the valves and fixed the stripped oil
nut.He did say the owner was regular with oil
changes and raced some desert races. He also felt
the bike was in decent shape the last time he saw it.Sounds like the top end is due for some attention. How much am I looking at or is it worth
it? I think I'm still going to check it out. What
do you think?

oto, no one knows the bike like you. If the bike is in good condition than $2,800 is not too far off.

Don't listen to ego as he has nothing relevant to say, just nonsense.

Let us know how you make out, good luck.

Buy it. The top end isn't really a big deal. $400 at the most if you take it in to a shop. You will be able to ride the bike without doing the top end for awhile anyway. It's a great bike. I have one with the original top end on it and I have alot of miles on the clock. The only thing I would do is change the oil and filter and clean the oil strainer plus check that the air filter is clean. Then ride baby.

So lighten up dude, get off your PMS or take some Midol :)

Dont trust the bike, let alone from a small town Used Car Dealer, to me what you stated they lied to ya already... There are better bikes....
