new TT tip - go to boards w/o losing address bar

Recommended Posts

I love the new TT but if you go to the discussion boards from www.thumpertalk.com, the discussion board comes up in a new window that doesn't contain the address bar and menus. I just don't like that.

Since I didn't have the discussion boards bookmarked, I had to dig a little to find the URL to go straight to the discussion boards - just so I could keep my address bar and menus.

If anyone else is like me (and didn't have the boards bookmarked), just use the URL https://www.thumpertalk.com/bike/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?category=11

Besides that little pet peeve of mine I really do like the new look and content.

Yeah. That's weird. It's what I have bookmarked that goes to the yammie boards.

I also tried yours "https://www.thumpertalk.com/bike/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.php" which didn't work for me!

But this does "https://www.thumpertalk.com/bike/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi"

OK - it took me six tries but the original one above works now. It turns out that they replaced a few things in the URL when the post was submitted - that is, I originally typed "https://www.thumpertalk.com/bike/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?category=11" but it got changed to "https://www.thumpertalk.com/bike/ubb/ultimatebb.php?category=11"

Hmmm. It's very close and I didn't notice it at first, but the cgi extension and the different path made it not work!

Fine by us, however, we did this because the portal now serves as the place for you to get announcements, news, alerts, etc... Since we are dev mode, we are making changes fairly regularly and we get quite a bit of email from members wondering why a bookmark doesn't work or they are not aware of new features, changes, etc...

Bryan - by designing things the way that they are (new window with no address bar), you've accidently made it it very difficult to post a link to a old thread. That is, if I find the old thread, I can't just copy the URL from the address bar anymore...

In order to do that I am required to know the URL to the discussion boards so I can keep the address bar!

Regards,

Steve T

Ask and you shall receive! ?
