The 426 was the first bike I ever bought too. I learned on my friends Honda XR650R so I figured I was going to get less power on the 426 (thinking that # of cc's equates to how much power). Hahaha. What a surprise. Luckily I'm a quick learner and clearing most doubles and tables on intermediate tracks after about 6 months on the 426 and 9 months total riding time.

I might hold the throttle wfo on 5 different places on the local MX track and I've been riding more than 6 months. That's still about 5% of the total time on the track, I suck bad!

At the local tracks I frequent they have added many long blind tables and doubles. They now helicopter people to hospitals on an all to regular basis. 2 kids have been killed in the last 3 years. Most bad crashes have involved new riders. Be careful, ride over your head and it hurts. I have to get down off my soapbox for now.

I used the "full throttle" on the monster pumpkin, done it many times. I rips me off the back....guess I held on too tight...my poor pinky never got to slide off the back with me!!

Seriously though, thats from hitting neutral over a big step-up, I carry alot of speed to the face, coast up it, then blip the gas hard one last time to clear it. I must have hit neutral when I stood up out of the turn, and since I coasted up to it to scrub speed, didn't realize I was in neutral. Gave he a handful, and all that happened was the engine revved. I couldn't do anything, just lifted off and nose dived straight into the face of the step. I was told it looked JUST like Carmichael at Anaheim 1, only, I stayed on the bike. It threw me down into the tank, locking my legs under the bars. Ripped my finger nail off, which resulted in the bone showing alot, resulting in the doctors having to amputate the tip. Blew the front tire off the bead, snapped my oberg triple clamps, bent sub-frame, busted clutch perch, lever, and ripped my grip off.

Full throttle is FUN though! ?

The 426 was my first dirt bike since I was 15. I never rode a bike with a rear mono-shock before the 426. I got my bike 4 months ago and did a little bit of trails with my friends, but made the mistake of going to the track. I have ridden the track in OR now three times and the last time was clearing all the 50ft+ jumps. The guy I met on this site and introduced me to tracks is encouraging me to race, but I am going to hold off a little on that. I am just saying I love my 00 426. The power has got me over some of those jumps that I shouldn't have gotten over or would have come up short because I didn't come off a corner clean. I have a lot to work on I know, but the 426 will be the bike I do it on. I am already looking forward to the 03 450 and am saving my penny's for an 04.

Nice to see you boys on the blue side are getting the same bs. Some orange boys with the 400's whine about the 520's. Gratuitous horse power is a beatifull thing. If we want to ride it like a smaller bike we can twist alittle slower. Ever notice that the guys bi***ing have spent more on engine modes to improve power that if they bought the bigger bike to begin with! It is even more ridiculous when the bikes are the same weight (400 & 520's anyway) Smaller bike are fun too and speed and ability have more to do with the rider anyway. More power is just more fun to me, as long as it is controllable, ie. 4 stroke. I am 40, I am a big boy now, I know what I want, here is the money, be quite and give me the bike!

Hehe.. you are all great! I agree with Idaho. If you want more power, and you aren't sacraficing weight, then why start small and try to squeeze blood from a turnip? I'd LOVE to have a 250F, but it would never replace my 426. I'm not a pro ( far from it) but I do pin the 426 wide open allot. I use every bit of power it makes, ( Hey, I didn't say I used it correctly or effectively, but the smile on my face is what matters, not my lap times). When I rode 2 strokes bigger wasn't always better to me bucause that usually came packaged with "harder to ride". It's just not that way anymore on the newer Thumpers!

Bring on the cc's! heck, I'd buy a YZ600F if it was as light as the current 426!

I am also a owner of a 2002 426, and love the bike, but only have one question. If some of you are holding the gas wide open, then why would McGrath lap most of you in a 3 lap race on a Stock 125? I mean, If your holding it wide open then where is he making up 30 seconds a lap on the average rider? Just something to think about.

There's a big difference between riding in a cow pasture or a desert two track than a MX track. I own both a 426 and 250F, sure I can take the 426 to the stops but holding it there is another story. I'll take the 250F any day over my 426 on a track.

Why would you rather ride your 250f instead of your 426 on the track? Are you faster on your 250f, are can you just go for a longer time. I am interested, Have you ever put yourself on a stop watch to see what the differents in lap time there is between the two bikes?

Look people. In a tight technical track, the 250F has the advantage. It's easier to turn, lighter in the jumps, and doesn't beat you up so bad. On a track where speed rules with lots of straights and fast corners, you can't beat the xtra power in the 426. It's the same with 125's and 250's. The 125 can snake it's way through a tight course with ease but give the 250 room to breath and it's gone.

If your gonna flame something, flame hahahahonda. Stand by the company that's producing bikes you want to ride and flame someone else. Besides, I like screwing with those red riders. ? It fulfills my inner demons!

Less than 8 months, most of those being winter-no-riding-time, and I see where he's coming from. I do hold 'er wide open......at times. I don't think the original post's intentions were to imply that he rode WFO all the time. (He wouldn't be alive to type the post)!! I too get tired of hearing about how much faster I would be if I rode a 250f. I love the little thumper, don't get me wrong....just not as much at my 426. And yes...I do use all of its power. If you would have asked me this last year, I would have said something like "I will never reach the capabilities of the bike".......well, I wont all at once. But it sure is a kick in the keister beating the other guy off the corner to the next one. Since I have been running and working out, it's kind of neat seeing the same guys that could ride circles around me last season come around and wonder why a 37 year old guy is now able to pass them on a heavy, outdated, overpowered monster. IT'S ALL GOOD!
