AIR FILTER OIL

Hello, I have a 02 YZ 426F. I have been using PJ-1 spray on oil and cleaner. I have noticed that after filter change the bike cuts out at high RPM. I have reduced the amount of oil same reaction from the bike. I have both the twin air filter and the stock one the stock one works better right after the change. Just want to know what the majority of you use for oil and are there any tricks to getting the filter properly saturated "not to much, not to little"

You can never squeeze too much oil out of your filter. No-Toil products are the ONLY way to go. You would have to be crazy not to use No-Toil oil and cleaner.

I must be crazy then. I use Maxima filter oil. Never had a problem, no reason to try anything else...........

No-Toil is the best out there. You can get their 3 pak and take care of everything in one easy package. I vote for the No-Toil

I tried no toil and switched back after about a month. Two negative things I noticed about my trial with no toil was:

1. I was consistently seeing a light dust in the air boot ? that I never got using PJI, Maxima, or any of the OEM filter sprays (and do not get now that I switched back).

2. It through my jetting all over the map first rich then lean etc.

Note: I've also read that it can destroy some types/brands of air filters.

Just for the record I followed the directions to a "T" i.e. application/set-up, not immediately riding the bike etc.

With that said I know there's a lot of TTers out there that absolutely love the stuff and have no probs. I absolutely love the cleanup process of no-toil but I can't live with dust getting through the filter nor did I like the erractic jetting I got.

I'M NOT SAYING FOR ANYONE TO QUIT OR NOT USE THE STUFF. I'm just saying BE CAREFUL because some of us saw less than a rosey picture.

I always inspect my airboot while cleaning the filters and I've never noticed any dirt. How often do you clean your filters? I clean mine after every race/ride.

Ive replaced 3 filters because of No-toil. It disolves the adhesive glue on the filter.

I also quit using no-toil. I thought it was great at first because of the convienence in cleaning but quickly decided it was not worth it because of the damage to my filters, and not nearly as tacky.

Maxxima Fab-1 is my preferential filter oil.

Same here, used it for a while,was great at first.

Then it started to breakdown my filters!The foam seemed to melt off(fall apart).I now went back to what i've been using for the past 20 so years

I've read on here from more than one person who got dust past the filter using no toil. I'm sticking with petrolium based stuff for now.

(GOOD)------ Belray or Maxima & Clean only with Kerosene.....the best way to go. Kerosene does not break down the foam or adhesive in the filter.

(BAD) ---- Do not use gas - it will break down the filter

(UGLY)-------- I found No-Toil does not work well for me.

Belray for me. Leaves a blue color on the filter so you can see when its evenly oiled. It also dries to a nice tacky surface. I haven't seen any dust inside the carb boot. Just don't over oil. Squeeze out the excess and let air dry for a day.

I agree with the last two. I've always had great results cleaning with kerosene and using Bel-Ray

filter oil. No experience with No-Toil.

I use Maxima or PJ1 spray. I think both work well.I clean with Simple Green And hot water,this also does a nice job.I never tried No Toil because I think its a little pricey.

spray on filter oil is like using a can of spray paint to paint your car.

I start by washing my filter in mineral spirits. It doesn't break down the glue or foam. It simply breaks down the oil. Then wash thoroughly with soap & water. I cheat and dry mine with a hairdryer. I use BelRay filter oil. I keep it in a butter tub. I open the tub and dip my fingers in it and smear it all over the filter... kneading & working it in till the entire filter is blue. Then I take paper towels and squeeze & remove all the oil that the paper towels will remove. Cover your palm with the paper towel & squeeze the filter like that till they quit turning blue. Now your filter will be consistantly oiled the same way every time. Always wad up a paper towel & use a clean long screwdriver to "mop" the inside bottom of the air boot. I don't use grease on the lip of mine. I clean my filter after every ride. I NEVER look at it and say "it'll go another ride." It's only filtering the air going inside your motor, right?

I also have been using Maxima, but I got a deal on some Motoul stuff. Maxima is blue, Motoul is blue, Bel Rey is blue, so who is makin this stuff?

As far as cleaning, Ive been using that spray on foam air filter cleaner. That stuff works freakin great! After that stuff, I wash it out with soap and water. Very clean. Its amazing how much stuff comes out in the soap and water. When oiling, I use a 1 gallon plastic bag, put the filter in it, pour some oil in it, squeeze out the air, and knead until completely saturated. At that point, I go get some of these super cheap plastic gloves my wife got (to get the mail when she thought anthrax was in every mail box in the country)and I squeeze the excess into the garbage can. Ive got one of those foam gaskets for the air box, so I dont grease the lip anymore, which is nice. Im done. 5 mins start to finish. ?

Depends where I've been riding and what the conditions are i.e. sometimes after every ride, sometimes after 2-3 rides. I'm not new to dirt bikes I've been continually riding since the mid 80's and haven't blown one up yet. I've got a good handle on the drill.
