Filter oil recommendations

Recommended Posts

Hey guys i am lookon for some filter oil and wondering what you have had success with.

I used to just wash my filter with gas anf oil it with a bit of 2stroke mix oil. On a 2 stroke i did that for years with no negative effect or crap in intake track. But on my 450 im not comfortable with that and im outta mix oil..

Are the aerosol cans a decent route? Seems a lot easier than working oil in by hand and trying to get it fully coated

I use liquid filter oil. I believe any brand made for air filters will work just fine. Keep it in a sealed tub. Clean dirty filter completely, then pat it dry really well. Let it dry overnight with fan on it. Dip into oil in the tube to completely saturate it. Gently squeeze out every bit of oil I can, which is most of it. So you don't waste any oil. Then gently squeeze the rest of the excess onto paper towels. Let filter dry overnight and put in plastic bag for later, because I keep about 4 filters per bike to cycle through.

you letting them dry in the washer or what?

I am guessing they are getting a thorough wash in the washer

Mine rarely even get dirty. We get much dust here its mainly mud or damp enough to keep dust down except for middle of summer. I just like to be safe with my investment.

So the general concensus seems to be the bucket of oil vs a spray on oil will have to check them out

Let it dry overnight with fan on it.

Or find one of these little $20 fans (I got it at Canadian Tire up here) that fit an air filter perfectly, and can face directly up. My filters dry in an hour.

Just remember to put something in it to weigh it down. Once it's almost dry, it'll float right off if you don't.

You talkin about this stuff? Only greenlabel one i see. They also have a blue and a red label

http://www.motosport.com/no-toil-evolution-oil

Edit: my bad blue is the filter cleaner not oil.

Yup, thats the one. The red is getting phased out I think. It damages some brands of filters or something like that.

Pic above they were getting a good wash.

I use same brand cleaning powder, but have heard there are cheaper ways to go.

I dry them in the dryer on "no heat". Don't tell my wife....

Yeah the green mentioned not delaminating the sealing ring on filters so i think the red is probably not worth the risk i am 99.9% sure my filter is a twin air.

I need to grab a couple spares. Havent made it that far been working through the misc problems and trying to improve the bike for my use.

I also have that exact same fan so i can try that for drying.

Thanks for the input guys.

Did you say you are using the no-toil cleaner as well? Seems like there are a good few options for cleaners too. If dawn works i can do that. Shouldnt eat at the foam

I run DT1 filters and have used the spray aresol cleaners - not good most break down the adhesive . I sprits mine with mineral spirits and wash and then Soak in smile green and rinse then final wash with dawn dish soap and then let sit over night upside down in a 5 gallon bucket - remaining dirt settles to the bottom of bucket - rinse and let dry . I use maxima spray foam filter oil and lightly coat inner filter and a more liberal on the outside and massage and then immediately bag in a large zip bag . We are extremely dusty here so I have 5 or 6 filters ready at a time .
