What are the biggest advantages of plating?

Plating gives you essentially aluminum on aluminum, so the expansion rate when heating up is much more similar between the piston and the piston wall so very tight tolerances can be used.

With a steel sleeve, the aluminum piston must have a much greater tolerance gap between the piston and cylinder wall as the piston will expand much faster than the steel/iron liner.  On start up there will be more piston "slap" from rocking in the bore until the piston can expand to lower the tolerance to the wall.  This wears stuff out faster than the plated cylinder.

If you replate the cylinder now, you will never have to do it again unless you do something bad like seizing it up.  But normal wear will not be a factor over the rest of the bike's lifetime.

I have used Langcourt and Millennium on my KXs and US Chrome with my Honda: excellent results from all three companies.  I currently send my stuff to US Chrome just because they are a little closer to me thus shipping is a little less.
