I've done my share of navigation but a good dirt bike specific practice is to turn around at intersections. going one direction, the trail can look different, especially at speed. Your brain is a much better tool for reliable and timely navigation if you give it a chance.

This is good advice! I do the same thing in unfamiliar territory, even on foot while hunting.

Locus maps is another good GPS app that allows GPS use without cell signal, lots of good maps available for download too!
