what's the lowest pressure on stock tyres to use?

Recommended Posts

In deep sand my wheels dancing all around, almost like I was ridden a wild horse ?

So far I was lazy enough not to lessen the tyres pressure

but maybe I'll try anyway tomorrow.

Another thing is the rear act strange in sand sometimes at lower speeds,  like it was dragging despite of being on gas.

Going fast is way better.  Damn the stock rear tyre is way to narrow, need wider...

0 psi.  They should be in the trash.  The width of the tire has nothing to do with it.  I think I had mine aired down to 16 and it was marginally better but I didn't like it all all for the black top runs.   It is just a terrible tire for loose terrain.  One spin on my buddies bike with d606's and I was tire shopping.  I went with a 100/100 kenda trackmaster 2 which is actually narrower than stock and the difference in sand is substantial.  As far as dancing around it's gonna do that.  Let it.  stand up.  The bike is gonna move around and tend to want to follow ruts.  Use your feet and throttle to get you going in the direction you want.  Takes some getting used to but once it clicked for me (sand was a big problem for me coming off quads my whole life) I love riding in the sand now.

Also the 606 is a great tire.  My buddy loves it but I was cheap and $50 for a tire didn't seem like much of a gamble to me.  I already have another trackmaster waiting to spoon on when this one is done.  Gearing also helped in the sand.  Sand really robs power and going one down up front and two up in the back really helped.  Plus the 100/100 is also a hair shorter which helps too.

I love sand too, I do sand on all bikes I have and agree - this stock tyres are really bad on loose terrain.

Width of the tyre is actually important, I found wider tyres performing better in sand. I can kinda skid over faster without digging in.

It's funny because I could ride sand pretty well on street bike with street tyres better then on this stock crf with IRC ones ?

Next rear tyre will be 140 for sure.

I used to get flats all the time until I got rim locks ...  ?

I have not had a single flat since and I run about 8 to 12 lbs off road and 18 to 20 lbs on the street with the XCMH's

planning to get  XCMH, how did you find them on sand and other loose terrain?

Where I can find rim lock fo these rims?

I avoid deep sand but have been in enough to know they would do well. The XCMH is simply an awesome off road tire and is the factory tire on my boys CRF150F ....  ?

I did not put rim locks in my stock rims but I do believe they have holes for them already ... just remove the plugs and install Motion Pro LiteLocks

Go faster. Not kidding. I ride a 500lb. ADV bike in deep sand in central FL. The bike dances around... roll with it. That's what bikes do in deep sand. Lower tire pressures will help, but I find that the biggest issue with sand is that riders are nervous, so they simply go waaaaaay to slow and fight the bike moving around beneath then, Gotta get up on the sand and float, something that comes with more speed.
