Advice on buying wr 450 f or maybe a 300 exc and maintance

Recommended Posts

Hey guys i am looking at a 2008 wr 450 f

With 10k km on the clock.

I think the parts are still all from factory.

Am i looking at a topend rebuild? Bottomend rebuild? What else?

What maintance should have been done allready other than oil and filters.

It has not been riddin hard and it looks really fresh

Its from a 50+ year old that used it to take some rides on small trails en lil trail roads (no enduro or racing)

The guy said it runs like brand new.

I also am looking at a 300 exc from 2008 and up.

I will ride most of the time trials and woods and single track and playfull riding.

I really preciate any input on this...

Greetings.

That motor has a lot of hours.

Some where around 300.

It will need a top end, timing chain, carb rebuild (due to wear), and probably several other small items.

If it has been ridden all this time with the stock jetting and in/out tuning, it's hard to believe.

In the Netherlands, the lean/hot condition of this stock motor is not as big a deal as in a more temperate climate, but lfactory tuning should still be changed out.

A WR450 is much eaisert to ride compared to a 300exc, but heavier.  It would be better for tight woods.

Thnx for ur respond bro

A bike with 10.000 km needs a new top end?

Timing chain

Carb rebuild

What other costs am i looking at?

And the 10k bike is a better looking bike and nicer exhaust and wheels.

I need a bike asap what would you guys do?

Save the 800 and rebuild the nicer looking bike is what im leaning towards or go for the one with 8k on it?

How much km or hours can a bottom end have before it needs a rebuild?

Any other input would be preciated

There isn't much riding in the Netherlands as I've heard. So if it's little trail roads you should be fine with approximately 5,000 miles.

Most people riding trial roads and a lil wood(ish)

Do you mean 5000miles for a new bottom end? Topend?

I could go for a bike with 5k on it because of our mellow roads and woods?

Thnx for ur input

My 08 450 had 10k miles aprox 500 hrs on when i sold it and it still had the original crank in it. That was all off road use, mixtire of racing and practice track

I put a piston in it at 7k ish approx 350hrs as it was burning a litle oil otherwise it was fine

These 450 motors are built well

That sounds promising, i read allot that pistons last 150/200 hours, i am a fast rider but not revving the #f out of my bikes, shifting with clutch and on the road i never go for a constand speed.

I was also looking at a 09 gas gas te 510

In mint condition with 800 miles on it that has been serviced and checked...but i dont know much about these bikes.

I will take a look at some bikes today

Anyone here an objective opinion on a gas gas te 510?

Got the one with the fresh motor and all the bearings ate new, the akrapovic powerbomb is nice too, its a mint looking bike..the suspension has been tuned and it rides like dream, i cant wait to take it too the woods, it has a lil les power than a crf 450 r but i feel its more controlable and useable power due its gear box

Thanks for ur help guys
