Which triple clamp?

I want to get my bars out of my lap and to keep from feeling that I'm taking a ski jump, when I stand up.

My first choice would be the White Bros clamps, that shorten the wheelbase for my 99 (too much money). But I'm going to get my suspension done (MX-Tech) and figured it would be a good opportunity to change the TC.

I don't need or want my bars taller. I run the Jimmy Button highs now. I just want them out of my lap :)

Will a stock 2000 TC, move the bars forward and bolt to my bike? Anyone have one they want to get rid of?

Thanks
Bill

Bill,

I'm not sure if it will move the bars out of your lap or not, but I have a '00 top clamp that I don't need. If you want to give it a try let me know.

Bill,
The 1999 & 2000 had differnt rake angles. Therefore the 2000 upper wont go with the 99 lower. You have to replace the set. Check with Scotts, as they may make adjustable bar mounts for the stock TC.

YZ400,
I have a 99 top clamp on my 01 and it seemed to fit fine. Am I missing something??

Between 99 and 2000 they made a 5mm offset in rake. It is possible to get things to go together as the pich bolts can be loosened and clamps spread, but the holes are not machined at the same angle.
It was done to improve (make quicker) the steering on the Y2k models.

If I am having no troubles with cornering or head shake, do I worry about it?

is the change of angle not done via the head tube angle on the frame?

According to Scotts the stock 2000 triple clamp will move the bars forward 10mm on a 98 or 99 bike. If you use a stock tc from a YZ250F it will move the bars 20 mm further forward than stock98 or 99. The rake angle was not changed 99 to 2000, but the frame was shortened 5mm. Sorry again for my stupidity.

Bill,

Have you received anything via UPS lately? If it does manage to show up be sure to fish out the videotape I stuck into under the packing material. It's kind of boring and nowhere near cueball's moab video, but it might be entertaining for a few minutes anyway. Heck, use the tape to record your favorite soap opera or something. :)

I hope the TC will come in handy if it ever gets there. I'm beginning to wonder if I should have insured the package…

Ron,

Sure haven't, hope it makes it. Thanks again and thanks for the video. I grew up in SLO and it's always nice to see California, especially riding :)
