first look at new beta 2017

Recommended Posts

The 125 looks like a neat little playbike (and cheap!)... you know someone is going to try and cram a bigger motor in that frame.

I bet a bigger motor in this frame would suck. Suspension is less then an XT's and overall package (based on paper) is very lacking and looks like a Chinese knockoff. I cant see a real market here in the states just like the 50cc big bikes that Europe has.

At 15hp how much fun could it be on the road??? Off road for the price you can get a CRF150/230, TTR,,, a lot cheaper and have extra $$ for upgrades for the hard core rider that doesn't want a true enduro bike.

Our bikes here in Australia are street legal as are the 2st's ? You just needs to remove all the road gear its pretty easy with Beta most is plug and play. As is the mapping to get it to rr and beyond.

MM

Here I bet the mapping is different then the 2016 RR's had. Time will tell but for many an off road bike is a better base for a DS.

Ours are rr's with some junk on them to pass then you just fit the competition pack so to speak. `/

Here is my take on it.  The Beta has the same 15hp number as the street legal Honda CRF230L.  The Honda is about 45lbs heavier when dry.  The Honda is about $500 cheaper.  I think the weight alone would make this a tempting option for, dare I say it, a "Wife Bike".  I know the Yamaha TTR 125s and CRF 150/230s are popular with the casual trail riding ladies.  I think it has the suspension and chassis potential to be better than the Yamaha and Honda play bikes.  So long as the size isn't intimidating to those who are favoring the mid size play bikes.  Of course this all depends on the bikes overall execution and the finished product.

I am excited as hell for the 125. I have a GF on a 150F and an 11 yr old on an orange 85 XC.

The entire offroad market is lacking in this area for a manageable engine in a frame with real brakes and decent suspension, something the 150F does NOT have, I cannot stand teaching folks to ride on that 150F with a super grabby front disc and a non existent rear drum brake...it doesn't help them learn a dang thing. The 150R is more pipey than my 81' CR125 so it doesnt help. The green 140's and everything else have crap suspension and brakes. Although the 125 Beta may not have Sachs stuff, it look better than the 1970's technology on the 150F/TTR/KLX family.

The 150F is a killer indestructable bike but when you want to move up in suspension and brakes, but not weight and HP, you have nothing.

I am geeked about this thing being added to the stable but now need to crap $5-6K soon.....

A CRF150R can be made as smooth as any bike out there for little money. There is nothing "pipey" about a 150r! It can be made into a great woods bike with a bit more money and all for less then the 1980's Beta 125. Your post tells me an XT (detuned) would fit your wife and a CRF150R BW and add small wheels (if needed) for your child. JMO

But why need to make it that way and still not have e-start? Momma won't roll without the button now....come on! :-)

150r was for your child and an XT for the wife. We never had any problem starting the 150r but e-start is a must for a big bike. In fact hole shot were a common thing in HS with the 150r.
