carb backfire LOUD!

Recommended Posts

After washing the bike today I was running the engine to get it hot so it would dry. After it got warm I was playing with the throttle and whacking it open (I like the sound..hehe..) and since it was idling and not really hot yet it kicked back through the carb. WOW was that loud! Sounded like a regular backfire but I could hear it and feel it. All of the water on the seat and sides of the air box jumped right off! I haven't looked at my filter yet, I hope it's still in one piece. OK I had nothing important to say, just wanted to babble a bit.. ?

I'm getting a good laugh out of some of this stuff guys but the scary thing is I've seen a yamaha street bike burn to the ground almost taking a garage with it from a backfire through the carb (which caught the filter on fire).

I'm telling ya, if you saw that in person you might not be as quick to think there's not a legit reason Yamaha put it in there.

Late.

HEY RICH, dont worry my screens not going anywhere,we were just cracking on another post about removing the screen where the guy said if you removed it it would improve the "swirling effect"to the carb.........ha what a joke!!!!

Last year I tried back-to-back dyno runs using the stock 426 cage & the cage from a 125 (which has no mesh). Made no difference to power..

I did this shortly after seeing a Husky burn to scrap after backfiring through the airbox. This was during a re-start after a crash (presumably flooded), watching the poor guy trying to scoop gravel over his burning bike wasn't a pretty sight ?

Convinced me to keep a screen in there..
