Not happy with FMF so be wary

Recommended Posts

Ok I have a used FMF exhaust with power and mega bomb. Just finally went to change my power bomb to the mega and the new flange I bought doesn't fit. I contacted FMF and they said it's an old design and we have changed it and don't have parts now. Nothing we can do so we are happy to sell you a new one at 30% discount. Ok so now I have to spend $200 and now have a scrap titanium header all because they can't support their products. Guys be wary when buying a new or used FMF as you may run into this later.

Huh? I bought the exhaust system used that's not the point, the point is they can't support their products and now I have to spend 200-300 cause they won't set me up with a flange kit that works.

We are sorry for the issue you are having with your header. FMF is always making improvements to our products to meet the high demands of making a quality product. These are known as "running changes"

We are currently looking into this issue, after your email it was brought to some peoples attention and we are disusing it this morning. If all goes as planned we should have some part numbers for you to order soon. As soon as we get some more information we will let you know ASAP.

I stopped using FMF years ago. All it took was one phone call to their HQ to realize they would rather support their factory riders than their customers when it comes to parts. They very specifically asked if I was a sponsored rider before telling me no. Oh, and I've always had issues with FMF stuff coming apart.

Search the forums, it's not just you and I, you'll clearly see FMF customer service is a joke.

Much better support from the other big exhaust companies.

I'd be interested to see the end results of this one.

Yeah that answer is good but not what I was told on phone. I really don't like being told basically oh thanks for soending $600 on our stuff but now you have to spend $200-300 cause we won't supply you with a $5 spacer. See if they come thru I have had 4 FMF systems but tgete are plenty other competitors out there

Well its an FMF item so by your logic if you buy a used car i can say oh chevrolet wont supply you with spark plugs cause they have new models so you need to buy new motor. How is this unreasonable?

That's my favorite kind of internet argument.  No, that's not the same at all.  Spark plugs are maintenance items and FMF didn't make the bike, they made the pipe which requires no maintenance.  What FMF was selling when that pipe was originally purchased fit together just fine.

My point is that I think it is unreasonable to make a thread on the internet talking doo doo about FMF.  You didn't buy it from them.  If you were their actual customer and had purchased this stuff new from them you would have a complete, working system.  You bought the stuff second hand and are trying to put stuff together that wasn't originally designed to fit together.

I work in the customer service industry and I'm usually on the receiving end of these things.  I'm just throwing in my .02 from the perspective of someone with no stake in the matter.

Ok we will see what you say when you have to replace the flange in your $800 sysstem in a fee years and your told nope cant help you, need to buy new header. Then you can write back. And its a matter of didnt even want to try on the phone, i can guarantee not all headers are same diameter and they can find spacer that fits with a fee measurments, and i can guarantee they have the CAD drawinggs for everything. If i was important they could and would machine one up. I didnt mean to say FMF is a shitty product, i think its quality. Was just warning you guys to watch for replacement parts on your older stuff, mayne buy a few while you can.

So wait, let me see if I have this right.  You came on here to complain (I have no issue with that, BTW.  You're free to do so), FMF responded and said they'd help you and now, while waiting for their resolution, you continue to shit on them?  I'll give them bonus points if they still help you after that.

That would be great and would change my perspective on this whole situation.

Our R&D team was able to get something together to help you out. If you could please give our Sales Department a call at 310-631-4363 we can get this sent out right away for you to make sure you're riding this weekend.

I remember you saying you purchased a flange kit already, regardless if it was purchased through us or not, we can do an RMA and get it back here to credit you for that kit.

Sorry again for the confusion and the inconvenience, your header was the very first one made in 2009. It was made in January, not long after that before the next run of headers we changed that flange which is what we call a "Running Change" we try the best we can to supply parts for all of our products especially the older stuff. But this situation is especially unique because we only have a handful of that style header.
