Moab a complete F****** disaster

Recommended Posts

Warning this is a rant to all my fellow riders and nothing more

For years we have been enjoying the astounding beauty and unique riding in Moab

In prime riding season it was always busy and everyone knows not to go near it on easter jeep weekend

For years the jeeps and bikers alike have had their "own" weekends and a mutual respect to some degree

Going on a weekend always yielded a busy trip with more folks there but if you left on a thursday you could always get a good spot and mid week it was always a little calmer

Now its out of F888king control!

Every drunk f8888kng hillbilly with 20k and a 6 pack can buy a razor and is running rampid in moab destroying trails littering beer cans everywhere and don't even get me started on the mayhem taking place at night

We were there 2 weeks ago and this clown literally had a lite show coming out of his toy hauler. Surrounding our camp by f888king 8 razors blasting music and running generators and having drunk donut razor contests at 1 am.

Then when they get hurt or stuck in the trails because they are to drunk to ride responsibly they except search and rescue to put their ass on the line to save them!

We have been 3 times this year arriving on wednesday and thursday and COULD NOT GET A CAMP SITE ANYWHERE IN TOWN

We called our doggy hotel we use in Moab because we refuse to leave our pups in the trailer on hot days and spoke to the owner a friend of ours. She told us they have no room and have been booked for months. They are literally buying pre  made kennels at walmart to try and accommodate people because it just won't stop

NEVER in my life have i seen so much open space and BLM camping be SO FULL!!

They have now officially restricted BLM camping because its so out of control forcing us to stay in paid campgrounds!!

We stayed in kane springs because there is NO place else to go anymore.  $90 a night for a piece of open farm land with no trees, no services, no water no nothing. Surrounded by bafoons ruining the land and the beauty of Moab

Forget trying to get into town for grocery shopping. Your lucky if you don't get killed my some drunk 17 year old with a razor in the parking lot.

Im sad that Moab has turned into this. Its disgusting that the authorities have allowed it. I understand that their economy is booming but at the expense of what?

I thought i hated the idiots on the giant 2 up quads but then i met the Razor crowd. Have you ever pulled into a restaurant and not been able to park your truck because every single parking spot is taking with 4 razors each?

There is just no place to go anymore. Big business has ruined our sport. The companies have to build 45 foot toy haulers with with fregin laser shows coming out of the side of them and of course every dumbass has to have a brand new one every year. Ruining the used market driving used prices into the ground for those of us that have them. Same crap with the razors.

MY favorite things razor people say!

" O WAIT THERE IS A NEW COLOR THIS YEAR!! I JUST GOTA HAVE IT! ILL JUST PUT MINE ON CRAIGSLIST FOR 50 CENTS ON THE DOLLAR AND FINANCE ANOTHER AT 22%"!! (says the drunk hillbilly)

"Helmets? Who needs a helmet I'm so drunk it won't hurt when i bash my head on a rock!"

"nah i have never driven one of these things how hard can it be really!!!"

"hey can i borrow your map because we are lost and almost out of gas"

"do you have any water? I'm so drunk and dehydrated i can't see out of my left eye"

"hey have you seen my dog? he is about this big and went flying out of the razor when we hit a bump"

"wait  second, you mean i can ride these things on the street, YEEEEHAWWWWWW"

"whats a seatbelt?"

" why not try that crazy looking hill in this stock rig, we have a wench right, its only a 100 foot drop over the side"

"hey man can you tell me the number to 911 someone is hurt"

"shit hold my beer here comes the only ranger for 300 miles"

"wait a second we need to register this thing, oooo I'm sorry i didn't know, Insurance? Who needs that"

We are loosing the sport, hobby, lifestyle to a bunch of disrespectful drunk &%$#@!. We are lucky enough to still have the right to ride with all the tree huggers trying to take it away from us!!  These ass clowns are only fueling and giving ammunition to the tree huggers as to why we SHOULD NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO RIDE ANYMORE!!

Its pathetic.

If you see some jerk off breaking the law in a razor you should report it in my opinion.

Rant over

Yours truly

a depressed and sad rider

A friend of mine was in MOAB this past weekend and said something very similar.

Everyone was nice and all got along, except the Razr crowd, they were the rudest, most idiotic people on the trails he could find. Same complaints as you, blasting music doing donuts at night after people are trying to sleep, and of course no safety gear, and no regards for anyone else's safety. All while trying to drink as much shitty beer as possible.

Pretty sad isn't it

It really does break my heart.

Sooner or later after a few razor people get killed on the trail we won't be able to ride anymore and will loose this wonderful place

I live 2 1/2 hours from Moab.  Quit going there years ago, I much prefer the CO mountains and the high desert of NW NM where I live.  Its been a fricking circus for quite awhile, and not just the Razer crowd.  The 4WD crowd is out of hand pretty much of the time, too, but nowhere near as bad as what you describe.  To the eco-nazis it is the crown jewel, and soon they will own it. :(

Sorry to hear about your experience.

But I have been going to Moab for close to twenty years and while the town and the experience has changed dramatically as the popularity of the area has gone through the roof I have never experienced what you have experienced recently.

It may be that I camp in very different places so that would be a part of it, but when it comes to the trails I have only every met happy people enjoying the environment and the trails we all love. I ride singletrack and double track equally in Moab so you meet the jeepers and the ATV crowd constantly on the double track.

It is super crowded this time of the year and it starts to get to hot for my tastes so I generally stop going to Moab by early April and I start going to other places that are not as good early spring and winter but that are perfect late spring.

This is what I'm talking about. I know where the good spots are as we have been going for years also

The problem is those off grid spots are now closed

They have close all Blm areas now and going off grid is now illegal forcing you to camp and be near all the idiots

We have been 3 times in the last 1.5 months and it's nothing but a razor disaster

So I don't know when you went last.......

Clearly you have never seen Glamis, Pismo, or Ocotillo on a holiday weekend. this phenom has been happening for decades and is showing no signs of stopping. Financing is easy to get, therefore anyone with a pulse and some amount of income can buy things on credit. I agree, the culture has grown out of its skin and the last one I saw was a 4 seater SXS blasting music so loud through the forest we heard the music before we saw the dust.

I blame Monster Energy, Red Bull, and BRO'S everywhere for creating the BRO LIFE. I had to sell all my black knee socks and flat bill hats just to not be associated with the invasion. I was gonna buy this helmet, too but it makes a bad name of things.

Ok, now let me get serious. YES, the actions of a few (many) are out of control. The dealers that are selling the people that buy these things are only interested in making more money. NO time is taken to educate on trail etiquette, or responsible use. The eco nazis will have a field day with this and it will just fuel the fight to keep public lands open to the public.

Yeah, i have been riding the western slope the past month and have not been to Moab since April 24th weekend when I did Slickrock/Fins on one day and Kane Creek/Pritchard the other day.

When they closed the camping out on Dalton Wells Rd and Willow Springs Rd it definitely compressed the crowds into a small area and for me that means I now camp further out from Moab as I prefer to avoid the crowded areas.

What really has meant for me is that once the spring crowds start coming middle of April I just ride in different places that don't have those crowds. (yet).

We stayed at willow springs in April. It was open but full. It seemed like half the camping areas had vehicles just parked there with no occupants. I think quite a few were living out on willow springs.

We were there around the same time and it was WAY crowded (almost 100% jammed full) on Willow Springs Rd. There were Razr idiots ripping down the road with full off-road lights and no helmets until pretty late.

exactly!

Those fregin lights should be illegal. God forbid one of them come at you at night its completely blinding. I was driving my Dually down a narrow road when one of those morons came flying right at me

I live in Moab. I also work for an energy company. Moab and Grand County made a decision a few years ago to do everything they could to shift from an industrial to a tourist economy, to "protect the environment from extractive industries".

I'm not sure what they expected, but now they see what a tourist economy looks like I guess. Pretty sure the landscape would have been better off with a couple more oil wells and a few thousand less people.

As far as riding, personally I rarely go on the popular "named" trails, there is still lots of great riding close that the tourists don't know about.

I usually stay in Moab just for the choices of lodging and food but rarely ride there anyway, just not that much interesting stuff to ride, I'll do Kane Creek sometimes and of course Soveriegn but there are no quads to Rzr's on Soveriegn, everything else is just not that interesting to me. I don't mind driving out to ten mile or white wash and even San Rafael from Moab. I used to stay in Green river but it's a shit hole and no place good to eat or drink. Ride during the day and drink at night.

I just drove through Moab, holy crap what a sh**show.

Memorial day weekend, let the circus begin. Moab was cool 20 years or so ago. My first time was in 1986 in a jeep, it was a blast...and hardly anyone there.

I'm like Sean....been going there for 25 years and never experienced anything that horrible. I have seen some nasty stuff after big Saturday during Jeep Safari, but no Razor hell like you describe. I haven't been going as frequently as I used to tho.  I learned a long time ago that never go camping without earplugs.

We were near Moab 2nd week of April, saw 3 groups camped where we camped solo a couple years ago, so that evidences congestion elsewhere. Saw a rig come out of Dubinky and wish we'd driven in to see how crowded it was back in there. On the easy ride we did close to Moab, we saw absolutely no one and I have a vid to prove it. Since it was a 4x4 road, you'd think someone would have been driving it, but yeah....can't do donuts and haul ass or they'd fall off the shelf road :jawdrop: , so maybe thats what detered em.  On the trail rides we did the rest of the week, we saw just a few other riders.

I drove through Moab in March and saw no evidence of extreme chaos. My son was out there during the second week of Jeep safari and yes, tons of Jeeps, but he didn't mention anything about Razors.

In short, if Razor drivers are acting as stated, things will only get worse as far as access for all motorized traffic. The good news is new ST is still being legally created.
