Prepping my bike for a trip in a couple weeks and found this. Strange something so important uses only a little clip.

I like the lock on front brake. Last time I did that Ed I took off with same lock on brake. Almost went down in the garage.

While the safety wire prevents loosing the keeper clip outright seems to me it would contribute to getting snagged and pulling the keeper clip out.

Also not a fan of the safety wire tether. I do safety wire the end so it cannot be pulled out.

My buddies came out in the Gifford Pinchot. Luckily it worked out as there was a rock laying around

That clip isn't coming out very easily, and the safety wire can snag. If you're on a KTM, consider drilling and wiring the rear axle nut.

Also front sprocket bolt,that falls out on ride. Fixed by turning in,spark plug to hold sprocket on.

That's what red locktite is for.

I hit every bolt on the bike with a wrench before every trip and I still find loose ones. This time it was the clip on the brakes, kickstand bolt, and 2 bolts at the top of the forks on the left side. I usually use blue on anything I take apart.

Yes even red locktite,torque wrench they still fall out. Its a Kant   Take  Mexico        thing

On bike prep, I have put a team together for this year's 1000. In the past we have raced the 450x Hondas and once on an xr400.

Gonna try something different and use this yamaha 450fx. I have absolutly no experiance with yamahas, or fuel injection, other than pemix don't seem to work well with fi.

Anyone have any experiance with these bikes in the desert?

Curious why you didn't choose the wr for a long race like the 1k

The wr was my first choice, went into the shop to look at one, the shop owner suggested that the fx model would be a better race bike. Apparently the design is less than a year old, It can run lights, no air forks, 18 in rear wheel, from what I understand the wr is now also fuel injected. We could easily get a honda, but thought something new would be kinda fun and challenging

To add to this the Yamaha has always been on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 most reliable)    The X is not even close in the reliability department.
