2011 CRF250R Fork Interchange

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what year forks will work on a 2011? I just got a used bike, and the previous owner really messed up the anodizing with some harsh cleaners. I want to replace the forks because it drives me crazy.

Thanks

I think it is a factory problem because my fork have loss all gold anodises off the front and stops at the clamp. The only things I used is truck wash and water to clean them. The bike looks near new the forks are f()$&@d. I didn't wash it after a ride, rode it again, washed it and noticed the gold gone. I going to get them anodised black maybe.

Wow, so you never used any harsh cleaners and the Ano came off? I have seen bikes around of the same vintage that look immaculate. I got the bike for what I think was a good price, but now I'm thinking I should have paid more for a better example.

Do your forks look like they have been sand blasted?

Wouldn't waste my money to cleaners. I have cleaned all my bikes the same way for 20yrs and my 250R is the only bike I have ever. If I remember I will take a picture of the forks on the weekend and post it.

I will post some pics as well, and no they were not sand blasted (I think I can see drip marks of missing Anno).  The crappy part is that these are factory Connection Forks for a rider the same size as me, so swapping with a stock set would be a downgrade. I'm hoping some good condition uppers and then I'll just swap the internals.

On another note, I bought a 2004 Yamaha YZ250F for 300 bucks a year ago. The bike was left for dead outside for a few years, and the forks still look better then the 2011 CRF's. WTH? Would a product like Aluminum wheel cleaner strip the Anno? I cant figure out how it is so ugly for a fairly new bike.

A lot of aluminum wheel cleaners are acid based. And a prettt strong acid at that.

Thats why they say right on the bottle to NOT use basically on anything that is painted or coated, or alloy wheels. Fork tubes are very similar to alloy wheels.

The acid could definitely eat into it if applied too strong or left on too long. Could it also be rock chips from eating roost? My 08 tubes look brand new.

I would watch eBay for a set of used outer tubes. I just searched it hopeing to post a link but everything is for a 04-09 or a. 14 or 15. Weird

yeah I found the same thing. It's almost like the Honda from these years were not that popular.
