What pit bike should I get?

Recommended Posts

Alright so I'm going to be getting my first dirt bike ever so please excuse my ignorance, I have had some experience with a friends dirt bike, I was wondering if the Pitsterpro LX 155 Fat Tire http://www.pitsterpro.com/bike/specs/id/72 would be a good bike for me, like could I ride this bike in trails, tracks, and light grass with some small bumps or should I get something closer to the LXR 155R http://www.pitsterpro.com/bike/overview/id/8? Also could I use normal pit bike wheels on the LX 155? I'm 17 5'11 and weigh 115 lb, my budget is about $2500 and I don't want to buy used. I want something that can do the previously mentioned stuff well. Please educate me and ty for reading.

At 2500 you're going to get a nice bike. I personally have ridden the Pitster and I like them. But honestly I still like the piranhas better. And if I had to choose between those 2 bikes I would go with the second. (Personally I think you might be more comfortable on a 12/14 wheel though).

Thanks for the reply, I will look more in to these Piranha pit bikes as they do seem quite good.

Honestly, no pit bike is going to give you good performance on a track unless it's against other pit bikes. And never mind performance on trails. You're going to come up against obstacles that are much bigger than those little wheels are so you'll roll over nothing. Do they even have bash guards? Looks like that engine is just hanging out there waiting to smash off a down tree or Boulder. You may not like hearing this but it's the truth. Spend your $2500 on a real dirt bike if you're looking for something to be taken seriously on a track or trail. If you and some buddies want to race around some dirt lots or grass fields go for it but a pit bike, although fun as all hell to ride, can't compare to a full size bike with full size wheels. Good luck and have fun with whatever you decide.

Very sound advice, although I think a pit bike would be very good for me to learn the ropes on because I'm just beginning. Having a bike that is optimal for trails would be nice but I will mostly be hanging out in my backyard which is quite big (just dirt and light grass). Now that I have learned more about pit bikes the Piranha Daytona 190 http://tboltusa.com/store/piranha-daytona-190-4v-pit-bike-p-2089.html seems like the best choice for me. Anyway whatever I end up getting I doubt that it will be my last bike ?.

tbh you can learn the ropes on a full size bike too. Make sure you convince your buddies to get them as well as it will get boring fast without other people to ride with. As for the 190. If I had 3,000 to drop on a pit bike that's what I would get, lol. If you personally call t-bolt maybe they can work you some kind of deal if your buddies decided to get them too.

Either way, let us know which you choose, and have fun.

They are fun. We have an old beater that just won't die but as mentioned earlier make sure your buddies also get pit bikes because they just won't hang with a full sizer.

Not trying to beat a dead horse but just for comparison sake, a KLX140 is $3100, big wheel option goes up to $3400. A CRF125F is $2800, big wheel option goes up to $3200. This is 2016 pricing so if you can find a new/leftover 2015 you could knock another couple hundred off. Brings you real close to your price point, has bigger wheels (even without the big wheel option) AND it's a Honda/Kawasaki motorcycle. This is huge when it comes time for repairs, upgrades and resale.

The most important thing is to have fun. That's why we all do this. No matter what you ride it will be fun. Good luck and don't hurt your face smiling. Post pics of what you end up with.

Alright so I took everyone's advice and my Dad and uncle went to check out a local dealer for the Kawasaki instead of a pit bike and they decided that it was just too small, so we picked up this bike right here and a nice helmet, and yeah we threw the budget out the window. It fits me perfectly  ?, I'm very thankful to have it. 2014 TT-R230 Yamaha
