You meet the nicest people in remote Baja trails...

Recommended Posts

They say "You meet the nicest people on Hondas"... Well in Baja they're on Yamahas, Kawis, Huskys, and KTMs too ;-)

Trackmaster Steve (one of those blue helmets) leading his group of 12 from WA heading south as we're (8 riders from AK, MI, UT, and CA) heading north in some remote'ish Baja...

Actually, Trackmaster and I have known each other a long time, since his 1st ever Baja ride in '00 when he roosted Tecate to Cabo with us, and many rides since then. Steve's an awesome dude.

It is pretty cool to see/meet people in the middle of nowhere in Baja.

One of the best things about riding there is sharing it with and enjoying new friends and old friends

Very well said. I totally agree.

Looks kind of familiar.  North of El Crucero?

Thanks Tim, was definitly awesome running into you. A couple years ago I ran into you and a very large group on the coast. Timmy here was having to transfer oil every 20 miles. This trip he is using his extra gas to clean up his oil soaked rear brake. A decision that later he may have regretted

Stopped by to say hi to Coco. Signing his book, Tim had signed it a few days earlier with a sticker. I said Coco, Tim was here, eh? He said, Moto Tim biult a new trail, and he told me where. So I told him, draw it on paper Coco, I want to see it. He did, it is hilarious

And I made you a trail Tim, but it is not a straight line

That comment there ^ has a little side story for y'all....

Lots of you know there's some pretty good single track in Baja. The area Trackmaster and I saw each other on that trip has some trails that are being TRASHED big time by riders (maybe I should call them "racers" or "wanna-be racers") who are CUTTING CORNERS and making the trails more of a straight line.

Really.

So super lame.

I don't know of anyone who wants to ride single track that's a straight line. But I guess some out there do.

Guaranteed the people who are cutting corners had 0 involvement with building any of these trails, they probably haven't built a trail anyplace. Users.

Bottom line is you should treat the trails with respect, not screw them up more, and if you do you're a DONKEY.

Carry on.

Ride safe.

I ran into Bill Nichols in Catavinia. That dude is busy as always making cool stuff for all of us to ride. He had like 5 dudes with him making a new trail. Invited us along, but we were headed in the opposite direction. That's the same day I saw Tim. Bill made a few comments that were so true, I noticed how soft stuff can be if not layed out right. The Rock man is so humble, and giving of his time!

I too get pissed when I see some sweet back country single track treated like it's a mx track! people have spent a lot of time and effort building these trails, please respect them Guys! San felipe has plenty of whooped out chit, if you want to play racer boy. just sayin'

I noticed this myself last time I rode out of Catavina.  Not sure why people feel like they need to race on these trails.  We came across a large group headed north as we were heading south and chatted for a while.  We were parked as they approached us and were just ripping, we could see the dust cloud approaching.  There just have been about 8-10 of them and those large groups unless with a tour usually leave large foot prints.  I kind of cringed when I saw them coming.  They told us how the trail south still had some good moisture and how epic the riding was.  I expected the worst and was still even more disappointed when we got there.  It was obviously a case of these guys running a super high pace on the trail and there were blown corners, extra tracks, and pieces of cholla laying on the ground everywhere.  I don't think guys are cutting short cuts so much as going to fast and blowing the corners.  The result's the same though.  I think I have a different mindset down there, I like to take my time, stay on the line, and enjoy the scenery...........smell the roses.  As cactusreid said, if you want to race do it on the boring stuff else the stuff that is so great will soon be boring and no one will want to ride it.
